But CB, what constitutes as below average presentation? My mom doesn’t carve roses out of tomatoes, or carrot petals, or even cuke leaves. But she’ll garnish with chopped dhania, and mirchain. With some dishes she’ll add julienned ginger. And if I think about it…that’s usually what other desi hosts do as well. So, the presentation isn’t fancy or mind-blowing…but it’s nice enough to where it doesn’t put off the guests from tasting. I would say that’s about avg presentation.
Below average imo wouldn’t have any sort of garnish…there would be salan smeared on the sides of the dish or alluminum tray its served in. So far, haven’t come across a shoddy presentation.

RV , that is average level of presentation in my opinion. Below average is exactly what you explained, salan smeared on the sides of the serving bowls , its a huge put off for me !
not very clean cutlery or glasses ! onions cut thickly in salads , rice not lined properly in the rice dish at the corners ..etc ..
I have seen desi’s and non desi’s do all sorts of stuff when it comes to presentation. Sometimes they will overfill the serving bowl so much , its freaking hard to even handle those bartans! Roti’s are served on napkins that dont look very clean even though they may have been washed but have stains .. etc

tasty not too fussy about presentation. Although, I do try to be more conscious when taking pictures now…lol (wasn’t when I first started cooking)

Has defo got to be taste, but its also important to have a good presentation. Coz automatically you would first go for the food which looks good.
Can we have some good pictures of some nice food presentations?

If I can’t have above average in both categories…then I’d be content with an average presentation but tasty meal. I don’t require fancy dinnerware or intricate garnishing if I’m a guest, average’ll do just fine as long as everything is neat and clean.

why NOT both? to answer your question, i’ll definitely go for taste…presentation is secondary!
