Watching Sri Devi dancing on this song is one of the childhood memories
Glass Bangle has been customary and traditionally in use since more than three hundred years in the sub-continent (Indo-Pak).
In India its manufacturing was started in the late 19th century in a town called ’’FIROZABAD” It is also said that people breath not air, but glass. It is located in North central India in western Uttar Paradesh state 40 KM from Agra and around 200 KM from New Delhi. In the ancient period it was know as “GHANDWAR NAGAR”.
In the start glass bangle manufacturing was hand process, but with the passage of time. It has passed different phases.
In Pakistan Hyderabad Sindh is famous for its Bangle industry. Many women are associated with this business.
There are many traditions famous for choriyan like the bride will try to wear as many small glass bangles as possible at her wedding and the honeymoon will end when the last bangle breaks. Toddler to older woman could wear bangles based on the type of bangles.
The above song reminds me of Baarat and UP:D Firozabad is on the side of four lane highway joining Kanpur to Agra, highway is elevated and town is slightly on lower side, majority of the factories are owned and operated by Muslims:), It is lot cleaner than Agra Chooriyan, is part of "solah shringar" that victims of Ekta Kapoor's serials might be knowing:D
Its strange that both Hyderabad Sindh and Hyderabad India are famous for Choori making.
i think Firozabad is known for chooRiyaaN and glass-work than Hyderabad. my uncle was posted there as Superintendent of Police and we still have a lemon set [a jug N 6 glasses] gifted by him with my bro's name water-marked on each item. :)

yes, Firozabad is on my way from New Delhi to Allahabad. i, sometimes, take Kalka Mail and i get a chance to see what the working conditions are like in those home-based industry. These factories are scattered alongside the tracks on either side...inside, it's hot and filthy...workers get a meager amount for their work. sad! :(
Fore convenience Brits named it Hyderabad Deccan, Railway tickets still prints it as Hyderabad Deccan:)
I shuttled between Agra-kanpur umpteen times but never bought any glasswork from there:), next time will get something from there:k:
Kalka mail starts too early in the morning, I could never catch it:), the other thing in Firozabad-Agra is that people come to tracks for early morning work and won’t even turn away even if train is passing:D
Strange.. So sikh women don’t like wearing chooriyan or they have Kangan / Kadaa, etc for wearing. In Thar (Dessert area of Sindh), unmarried women wear bangles upto elbow and wearing bangles above elbow is sign of married woman.
Sikh women wear Chooris mostly duing party's else they have Karaa, Bangles above elbow is common in Rajasthan, Chooris are mostly UP to South India section, Mangalsutra is more common with Marathis and South Indians:)
Now whats the idea of maglasutra.. as we discussed in Devdasi thread, it was probably necessary to get on bead from Devdasi’s necklace to make a manglasutra. What is the origin of word Manglasutra? Is is related to some Devi / Devta?
PS: Watching Ekta Kapoor’s soaps some girls asked here in Pakistan to their Patti Permeshwars to get them Manglasutra
Yes one bead should be from Devdasis, It is blessing of Mangal dev, planet Mars for long wedding life Even in Gurudwara they say not to keep any fast, as fasting is not allowed in Sikhi, but still woman keep fast, specially Karwa Chouth, because there are gifts involved in that:D
Yes sargi and Baya seems to be tempting and worth for one day's bhook piyas :D
Gold corrupts woman:D, and if prospect is of getting something in gold or diamond then even two days are okay:D
Yes Jayaprada was sober. We used to love her movie Maa (where she became an aatmaa).. We used to cry watching suffering of her baby and loved the Baba who gives her shakti to fight Shakti kapoor
There was this song in this movie , which also talk about sola singhar, angothi, nageena
