I heard about it yesterday on NEWS cause a local 15 yrs old kid passed away 2 days ago in our neighboring town, playing this game, using the rope of his bath robe.
So here it how it works.
They take their hands and place them around their throats, squeezing and breathing heavily until their blood vessels dilate. Their blood pressure falls causing their brains to become inadequately supplied with blood and oxygen. Sometimes a belt or scarf, a rope or bicycle chain is used to impede the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain, causing light-headiness before kids pass out. And the average age of the people participating in what is known as “The Pass-Out Game” is 14.
Yes this is a game, as many as 400 kids died playing this game. The website ChokingGame.net warns parents about it. There are videos of kids playing this game is avaialble on youtube.
If you have teens, pre-teens .. please make sure you know what they are watchinng in youtube
Kids .. they came up with this game apparently. Game is also called Clean Kids Game as they dont need drugs or Alcohol to get high. This is there way of getting high, so its more popular in otherwise "GOOD" kids.
that is really scary, but this has been around for some time. So many kids are dying due to this. But it seems like there is ALWAYS some sick/dangerous game or event the kids are doing. I remember back when I was in high school, the "cool" thing to do was x-stacy pills whereever available or going to clubs where under 18 were able to sneak in. Also kids we're i think take hiar spray cans or any aerosol cans, popping it somehow, throwing in garbage bag & inhaling...VERY SCARY. We must talk to our kids about these things and the dangers involved.
^^ I agree Afro about talking part. The most dangerous aspect of this choking game is that its popular amongst good kids. These kids think that they are not doing drugs or alcohol and this choking is the clean and harmless way of getting high without any addiction. Parents suspect less as their kid is otherwise a nice kid and there is no need for them to be alarmed
When I was in 5th grade, the kids were really into a variation of this game. We were all "good" kids. And we saw no danger in the game - we just thought it was really funny if one of us actually passed out like a lump of meat. We'd breathe as hard as we could and then another kid would stand behind and give like a heimlich maneuver and most of the time, the breather would faint. Sick, really, what kids find to be funny sometimes. The thing was also that the "brave" kids would try it and the ones who refused were "scaredy cats". But the thing is, we never thought anyone could die or get really hurt - I mean we're 5th graders and therefore invincible.
My kids are so much younger yet so much more educated about dangers like this...stranger danger too. Its sad in a way but knowing some hard and sad facts - if it keeps them safer - well I say by all means educate them about it.
Tlk, no it wasnt painful at all...it was like a rush, like a train rushing by and then...nothing. And when you wake up all the kids think you're a hero like you've gone to heaven and back or something. Its one of those things that has made me so very against rushing kids (most esp in USA) to earlier education. I was the youngest and - wanting so badly to be accepted, I was one of the "fainters". If I had been kept back a year, perhaps I'd have been mature enough to tell the other gals "this is really stoooooopid."

Thanks for this comment as this gives me another reason of relief that my daughter could not go to school and missed the age limit by one month. Now that puts her amongst the oldest kids in her grade. Few things that we initially crib about are blessings in disguise.
Bhaijaan, … i had my head screwed on too tightly to partake in such juvenile activities:barbie:… i was too busy trying to climb over the prison like fences to escape the bourgeoisie environment that my school became… i started climbing young
i believe this is where communication with your children is vital. In this day and age, parents rarely have any form of communication with their children, as in today’s economic climate, it has become somewhat vital for both parents to work, and long hours at that.. The times where parents would have conversations over the dinner table have become obsolete, as everyone enters the household at a different time, they all eat individually at different times… everyone is so busy doing their own thing…your children could be engaging in any sordid activity and you wouldn’t have a clue…
Even though my daughters are extremly young, my husband still ensures that he returns from work (on most days) at a reasonable time to read them a bedtime story and have a chat with them, we try to eat together in the dining room where there is no tv…it is vital to establish these settings where children have the opportunity to express themselves, and you have the time to interrogate them ..
