Appetizer.
I think it would look classy. Appetizers can include a mix of sweet and salty. And fruit with chocolate (IMO) carries a more casual feel.....so it's best served as an appetizers. I've seen the chocolate fountain with platter served as an appetizer at a wedding. It's a good idea, go for it. You can even include salty dipping snacks such as pretzel sticks as well.
The dessert should be more of a sit-down item. Something like cake or pudding.
