Chinos are like dress pant, and more relax in nature, comfortableness is b/w dress pant, and jeans.

Now, colorful chinos are in current fashion trend. I have three chinos( Khaki, Ash White and Maroon).

I used to wear these Dockers khakis all the time and had all colours.
Never knew these were called chinos also.
Incidentally, I was looking at an L.L. Bean catalogue today and it called these pants chinos. :)

Now I have switched to more formal pants.

Not just colours but also patterns, plaids, pinstripes, herringbone, houndstooth . You name it. My fav is a banana republic heritage line plaid number.
