KARACHI: About 1,100 locally assembled trucks have been sold by Adam Motor Company, a new entrant in the Pakistan automobile assembly sector.
The plant, which was inaugurated on July 26, set up some 15 months ago, started its full capacity operations in March 2003, to come up with medium-sized ‘Zabardast’ trucks, with the collaboration of Chinese technology.
CEO of the Adam Motor Co., Feroz Khan, claimed that the light-trucks assembled by them have incorporated 50 per cent components, manufactured by local engineering firms. Omar Jibran Engineering Industries, a sister concern of Adam Motor Co., has been in the market for the last several years, supplying its manufactured parts to local assemblers such as Toyota and Suzuki.
Feroz Khan says, “Zabardast Econo is the lowest priced truck in the country with a price tag of Rs485,000. It costs Rs104,000 less than its immediate competitor.”
He added that a transfer of technology agreement from the Chinese firms has also been signed and further plans to start engine manufacture was targeted for the future.
Zabardast Econo is a 2600cc, six wheeled two-ton truck. Another model, Zabardast Super, three-ton, has an engine capacity of 3300cc.
The vehicle assembly plant was inaugurated by Dr Akram Sheikh, Chairman, Engineering Development Board. Key representatives from Beijing Jeep Corporation and Jangsu Medan Automobile Group also participated in the ceremony.

A move in the right direction.
Pakistan needs more industry and technology. We need people who can design and build things.
Great news. It’s highly encouraging that we are continuing to build on our economic and techological co-operation with Great China, which will greatly benefit us as China’s economic might continues to sweep unabated across Asia and the world. :k:
