Something took off CAC runway on Dec. 26, 2008. Since Dec. 24, High ranking officers from PLA General Armament Department had waited in cold weather for this thing to take its 1st flight.

Rumor has it:
- DSI intake
- IRST ‘crystal ball’ in front of canopy, Su-27/J-11 style
- EW housing on top of vertical fin, JF-17 style
- More hard points, possibly wing tip missile rails
- Possibly new radar, PESA or AESA
- Retained AL-31FN engine
- Test pilot was Col. Liang WanJun.
