So one youtube video after another i ended up on a few related to chinese muslims. I have always been fascinated by muslims in china. Today i learnt that there is a mosque in China dating back to 960 AD, even before islam came to the subcontinent.
This documentary is about the plight of the people of the Xinjiang province on the northwest, the one that borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan. China took over this region by force 50 years ago and has since policed this area very strictly, severely limiting freedom of speech and travel. Majority of local residents are musilms called *Uyghur *(the word itself has become a derogatory term in maintream china).
I say we liberate Ughuir Muslims....its Part of Pakistan....we should reclaim it back from China. They are culturally and religiously more like us..their bazaars and looks remind me of people from Gilgit and Hunza Valley in Pakistan.....
I think we should infilterate freedom fighters from Pakistan into China and teach these chinese a lesson!
The Chinese government should not be trusted so blindly by Pakistan. Their track record against Tibet and Muslims is very bad. Pakistan should push China for better treatment of Muslims.
you guys!!! some of you guys support anything tribal looking that can carry an ak47. this report is BS, its made up and even acted out.
these people are more closer to mongolia, kazakhstan and russia then pakistan. they are on the far north west of china. they do have a slight murmerings of independence (less then balochistan) but they are chinese and they should aim to grow with china. its an internal chinese problem, without much scope for foreign intel to cause problems. with chinas strict approach to separatists and the areas growing economy, xingjang is going nowhere
economic info:
Xinjiang’s nominal GDP was approximately 187 billion RMB (about 23 billion USD) in 2003, and increased to 220 billion RMB (about 28 billion USD) in 2004, due to the China Western Development policy introduced by the State Council to boost economic development in Western China. Its per capita GDP for 2003 was 9,710 RMB (1172 USD).
Oil and gas extraction industry in Aksu and Karamay is booming, with the West-East Gas Pipeline connecting to Shanghai.
Xinjiang’s exports amounted to 3.047 billion USD, while import turned out to be 2.589 billion USD in 2004. Most of the overall import/export volume in Xinjiang was directed to and from Kazakhstan through Ala Pass .
^ The figures you state above are all really nice and dandy. Baluchistan has similar figures for producing natural gas.. but exactly how many baluchis benefit from this export? Iraq has the world's 4th largest oil reserve.. but how many iraqis benefit from the resource? Xinjiang is controlled by the powerful eastern block run by Han chinese who claim to be a more educated, superior race. How can you say for sure that all the money made in Xinjiang is actually being spent on the locals?

Exactly
Xinjiang was never a part of China. It was an autonomous state just like Tibet.
China after the civil war ended in 1949, took over Tibet and then Xinjiang in 1950 and then wanted to take over Taiwan.
I don’t know if you are being sarcastic or serious, but one thing that I do know for sure is that these people would probably have better standards of living while living in China rather than in Pakistan. Look at what happened when we opened our doors to the Afghan refugees. You talk as if they will have more oppurtunities in Pakistan. Pakistan is behind China in all fields, including economy, health, SoL, and most importantly, poverty. Not to forget, area-wise, Pakistan is more over-populated than China, and has made no effort in curbing this growth rate.
Both.
Kashgar (Xinjiang) is connected by the Karokuram Highway, to Abbottabad (NWFP), and branches of to the GT road (islamabad). Buses run regularly from Gilgit to Kashgar. The borders are open for both travelling and trade.
Comparing Baluchistan’s gas production (resource) figures with Xinjiang’s economic indicators (social & economic development measures) is absurd. The money made in Xinjiang and being spent on the locals is visible through the figures posted by vroom, and such figures do not exist for Baluchistan, sadly, some don’t for even the whole of Pakistan.
