China rock star jailed over riot

**Chinese rock star Zang Tianshuo has been sentenced to six years in jail for inciting a brawl in 2003 in which one man died, state media have reported.**Xinhua said Zang, 45, ordered the manager of a bar he owned to organise a gang to settle a business dispute he had with the bar’s co-owner.

About 120 people were involved in the subsequent violence in the streets of Langfang, near the capital, Beijing.

Lu Changchun, the manager of the bar, was sentenced to nine years in prison.

The Beijing court heard how a gang of 100 people led by Lu clashed with two dozen associates of co-owner Sun Baohe outside Langfang railway station.

One of Mr Sun’s group was killed and three other people were injured.

The China Daily reported that Zang had been behind hundreds of fights in the past.

Lu went on the run after the Langfang brawl but was caught in police in Changchun in July 2008. Zang was arrested in September that year.

Zang is a household name in China and in 2003 was named ‘Most Popular Mainland Singer’ at the Chinese Music Awards.

His lawyers said they were considering appealing against the verdict, said Xinhua.
