On the one issue that won’t cost US a red cent — UNSC membership — they will play games. Like the “two or so” formulation they have arrived at. If they can identify Japan as one candidate, why not the other?

WASHINGTON A key factor behind the nuclear cooperation agreement reached this week between the United States and India was a simple trade-off: The White House was willing to risk losing ground in the worldwide campaign to limit the spread of nuclear weapons for a deal with India that could help it counter the rising power of China.

While Israel sees India as a comrade in the fight against Islamic militants, the US has a somewhat broader agenda to pursue with New Delhi, particularly its possible role as a counter-balance to China, which US hawks see as Washington’s strategic competitor in Asia. “India is the most overlooked of our potential allies in a strategy to contain China,” according to Lloyd Richardson of the Hudson Institute, a think tank very close to the administration.

I guess it was these forums, 10 years back Indians were dancing with joy after signing civil nuclear deal with Americans, i wrote it here that it is never going to happen…just a lollypop…10 years fast forward, Indians are still happy that one day…may be in a million years they will get civil nuclear tech…

As the saying goes “As China rises in the east, butt-hurts rises in the west”.. You will see more and more of this, as Chinese economy grows so will its R&D and military capability. Most of the dirty work will be done by US proxies. Amreeka is way too smart to go head on with the chinks.
