US lawmakers condemn crackdown on Muslims in China
WASHINGTON: US lawmakers on Friday “strongly condemned” what they called Beijing’s harsh pre-Olympic crackdown in China’s Muslim-populated far northwest Xinjiang region.
The bipartisan leadership of the Congressional Human Rights Caucus in a statement cited “credible” reports about a July 9 conviction in a closed trial of 15 minority Muslim Uighurs on terrorism charges that led to “the immediate execution of two” of them.
Three others were given suspended death sentences and the remaining 10 received life imprisonment, it said.
^ they used to but now they are actually finding that promoting religion (without saying so in so many words) actually hep control the people more. Bhuddhist tourism is actually increasing
While the constitution states that citizens enjoy total freedom, the government consistently attempted to restrict all relegious practices to government authorized relegious organizations and registered places of worship.
Report shows religious persecution on rise in China
^
From the same report and numerous others like HRW shows that religious persecution on rise in China.. I think thats speaks volumes.
According to China Aid, the known religious cases in which house churches were persecuted by the government covered 18 provinces and one municipality directly under the jurisdiction of the Central Government and there were 60 cases of persecution, **up 30.4 **percent from that of 2006.
Delving deeper into the report, one finds that the total number of people persecuted was 788, **up 18.5 **percent from that of the year before.
The total number of people arrested and detained was 693, **up 6.6 **percent from that of the year before.
But only 16 were imprisoned! In a country with over 1 billion people arrest 788 people, detention of 693 (of that 788 I'd assume), trial of 60 (of that 693 presumably) and finally imprisonment of 16 (of that 60?) is suspiciously low.
I don't know where you were going with these but the fact is if these numbers are to tell the whole story then China is doing better in this respect than most other countries including Pakistan.
I just don't trust these numbers.
But the crackdown muslim extremists is a different thing - it is more to do with their separatist agenda than to do with religion. The house-church people are not trying to get the law changed unlike the ughur militants/terrorists or performing "holy war" which is the english for jihad!
If somebody so much as scratch themselves with a shaving blade in India or USA and half of Pakistan will be up in arms shouting “brutality against muslims” and burning effigies of Gillete. But Uncle Chin can outright execute muslims and look at this thread - NOT ONE CONDEMNATION! What’s worse people are taking potshots at USA and even justifying it as “ah they do it on all religions”.
The worst part is, USA is the biggest donor of funds for Pakistan in tough times.
If you’re talking about the aid given since Sept. 11, 2001, then it wasn’t meant for Pakistani public. It was a direct incentive to the Army.
As far as condemnation goes, scroll up buddy. I was the first to reply and first to say It’s Sad.
Now as far as defending Muslims goes, i think there’s enough brotherhood left in the Muslim world, which is why you see someone raise a voice. Even a spark is enough in the darkest of hours to indicate hope.
China, while compared to USA has not done much harm to the Muslims. China has NOT outright, against UN mandate, attacked Muslim countries and killed hundreds of thousands of Muslims. USA has.
Yes USA has had its reasons, some good, some not so proudful. But lets not compare CN to US.
