chili recipes?

Any tried and tested recipes for chili?

What kind of seasoning to use?

Re: chili recipes?

Mine wins awards! Ok so it’s not really mine as in I wrote it, but it’s the only one I use to rave reviews and it does win awards! I make it in a slow cooker or patila. Patila is faster. Bring to a boil, then let simmer.

Re: chili recipes?

Thank you so much.. I don;t see any special mexican spices in it so hopefully it will taste just the same!!!!

I am craving french fries with chili and this is the recipe I will be trying tomorrow!!

Re: chili recipes?

Yeah, you don't need any special spices. To be honest, chili is the simplest and most disaster-free thing to make. :D

Brown your lean ground beef with a little bit of oil, salt, and paprika flakes.
Add your veggies (I use a chopped onion, sliced mushrooms, and a chopped bell pepper --- sometimes even celery), a can of tomato sauce, and a can of stewed tomatoes.

Add your canned beans -- I usually use red kidney beans and sometimes add pinto beans as well
Add your spices -- cayenne pepper, paprika flakes or chilli powder, ground black pepper, oregano, ground cumin, and salt to taste.
Add half a cup of water and bring it all to a boil on high heat.
Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for about an hour and a half.

You can also make it in a slow cooker. Add everything to a crockpot before the last step and let it cook on low for at least 8 hours.

Re: chili recipes?

girls I have a question.. is chili powder the same as red pepper powder that we use for desi handi? What about cayenne powder?

I just dont want it to taste like a pakistani bean/qeema salan!

Re: chili recipes?

As far as I know chili powder is what we use in our desi food. Cayenne powder is from a different kind of hot pepper (cayenne pepper), and it's hotter than chili powder. Chili powder has a blend of different peppers, as well as other spices to make it milder in taste.
