Do you think kids today are overworked, with regards to how much work they get from school? Or do you think you had it worse when you were a kid (I do realize that many reading this are still kids…but really…try to think like an adult please).
Re: Children: Overworked?
is 18 years old guys consider as a kid? :halo:
if u r talking about high school kids then no coz they have most of the time no homework. if they have AP(Advance placement) classes then they might be working but they also enjoy coz it motivates them rather than becoming lazy.
Re: Children: Overworked?
hmmm not really. My lil sis is a complete lazy bum.
At her age i was always in my room studying.
But, I do reckon kids in pakistan are overworked.. completely! my lil cousin has no life.. she's only 12.. the poor kid.. i find her sometimes asleep in the namaz room.. she camoflagues (sp?) herself for 30 odd minutes so she can escape from her homework and tutors..
Re: Children: Overworked?
Kids are definitely overworked, especially when they get horrible schedules. For instance, my sister got Math, Bio, Chem and Int. Business all in one term. It was a real killer for her. Plus, she gets plenty of homework to do every night and there are assignments and projects to work on as well.
Simiarily, back when I was in high school, I used to get a lot of homework/assignments and had to do a lot of reading.
This is solely based on my educational experience in Canada. I've got no clue how good or bad it is in Pakistan or elsewhere.
Btw... elementary and middle schools were a breeze.
Re: Children: Overworked?
Back home, because of the dearth of decent professional institutions, the competition is so tough that only the very best can get into the universities. Reputation of the colleges are built on how many students from those colleges are able to get admission in the universities. Consequently, the study load put by the colleges on the students is on the increase every year.
I think it is a good thing.
How is it in Canadaor elsewhere? I have scarce idea.
Re: Children: Overworked?
what the heck. math, bio and chem in the same term is as easy as it gets. if ur good in math its like not even having a subject at all. if your good at memorization then bio and chem is pretty much just that.
Re: Children: Overworked?
Sadiyah, its worst in Pakistan :)..
Re: Children: Overworked?
if you are talking about the primary school kids .....then they are better off now!!
we used to get soooo much home work back then ....n my kids get the written one only for weekends .....during the week its just reading from school .n then they do a lil bit of urdu....
i often hear things are worse for kids now , back home .....but i dunno exactly !
Re: Children: Overworked?
Kids who don't work are unproductive...think about it.
Re: Children: Overworked?
^ indeed.
However, work should be worth doing and something to learn from. In the USA, I think in most public schools, there is the issue of "busy work". God knows I got a lot of it. Now what are you teaching the kid by loading upon them things like ...
"Okay kids, now when you go home and do these chemistry problems, REWRITE the whole question out on paper, and then show your work"
So, in my high school chem class, I wasted paper, and I wasted my efforts. I kept telling the guy that the best way to do it is to make a small summary of given constants and figures and then write out the necessary formulas, etc and then solve. But noooooooo.
Re: Children: Overworked?
I'll show you overworked.
Re: Children: Overworked?
The new curriculum in Ontario truly sucks. And a lot of times, in order to get an A average the kids have to put in an average of 3 hours or more after school. Personally, I think the work load is way too much for them.
Re: Children: Overworked?

Re: Children: Overworked?
My brother takes summer classes because he's stupid and he failed his senior year of highschool, AND he has two jobs (Pizza Hut and the Marina). I used to think he was just a stupid druggie jerk, but now, I respect him for being a stupid druggie jerk. I'd go crazy with all that stuff like he always busy.
Yea I know people in highschool that get jobs and they've got lots of work from school as well but some of them do it for money they can use to buy a car and for themselves. Majority of the 17-22 year olds work to pay for college, which is what my brother is planning on doing too
Re: Children: Overworked?
every frikin adult is overworked..so why should these lil *******s be spared..
