Re: Children names from characters of books / dramas, etc
I know someone who's named 'Marvi' after PTV's drama serial Marvi featuring Mahnoor Baloch. I'm under impression that Marvi is fundamentally a common Sindhi or perhaps Balochi name, but Muqawee will know better if the name's popularity really hit off after that drama.
Marvi is the most famous character from Sindh's folklore. A 13th century girl from Thar who rejected all the worldly offers of Omar Soomro (King of the area) over her land and Maroo (people of her land). Shah Latif and other Sufi poets of Sindh made this character immortal by writing poetry on it. There are references that Marvi's story reached Mughal court in Akbar's time and when someone passed negative remarks about the girl, Akbar reprimanded that person, as he was himself born in same area of Sindh.
PTV's drama 'Marvi' was an adaptation of the real folk story of Omar Marvi in new age. The drama was first telecasted in Sindhi and then after few years the script was translated into Urdu with certain changes. But well before this drama, the name was quite popular in Sindh and you can even trace it in politics and media. Marvi Memon, Mrvi Sarmad, Sanam Marvi to name few. Even Benazir Bhutto was referred as 'Marvi Malir ji'. There are many places, hotels, etc in Sindh with Marvi's name. Sindh University Jamshoro's girls hostel is named as 'Marvi Hostel'.
