Wow I never really thought of it as disrespectful. I guess I can understand it…but it seems so natural to say he/she, what else would you say? Whenever we are talking amongst ourselves we refer to mom as she and dad as he…Mom gets mad at us when we do that…but I thought that was mom being mom 
I never call any of the elders tu…I use tussi instead.
