Children and House Cleaning

My sis-in-law is really sweet and she has one very active and sometimes naughty 5 yr old daughter

She’s very cute and an angel but throws her toys all over the place, my sis-in-law has a tough time keeping the house clean all the time

how do mothers keep the house spotless especially with small kids

Re: Children and House Cleaning

dunno bout mothers but this dad of 5 year old twins can give some pointers.
baskets or bins work great, one for books etc, one for toys, and then it gets moved to a side or to their room.

Re: Children and House Cleaning

De cluttering works too. Less toys means less mess.

Re: Children and House Cleaning

We have a pull out large drawer in the family room where the kids dump their toys after they are done. Board games, books, special stuff is on a 5-tier shelfing unit. I’ve taught them to put things back when they are done. When they are with me it usually works but when they are with dad, :nahi:

Re: Children and House Cleaning

when they start crawling, tie some washclothes on their hands and knees. :)

Re: Children and House Cleaning

I agree with TLK - less toys less clutter. Donate the toys that they don't play with. I let my children play in everyroom except my bedroom and my office. It's a no toy zone.

They refer to my formal dining room as their "art and crafts" room which is fine because that is least used space in the entire house.

Even though I have tons of bins for their art, and stuffed animals, books, and dolls and playdo tools - I also have a hard time cleaning up and sorting things to go in each pile. Once every two weeks I spend a good hour or two making sure eveeything is in it's right box, bin or container.

Re: Children and House Cleaning

what abt those seats/sofa which have some space in them. You lift it up and all the toys go in thr... im not too sure how to explain u guys! but hope u got, what i mean. its basically for kiddies.....
I guess u can keep it in the living room and when kids are done, u can put all the toys under or in that seat.

Re: Children and House Cleaning

i guess when you say bins for the toys, you’re talking about those ones we get at walmart and you probably label them so the toys can be organized accordingly. like dolls go in one bin, legos go in another. sorting toys by the labels, perfect

i just dont’ know how some parents keep it spotless all the time even with active kids in the house, the houses look like museums. :bummer:

thanks all for the really good suggestions

Re: Children and House Cleaning

great suggestions, folks!

Re: Children and House Cleaning

Yeah great suggestions...
My daughter is too young to have too many toys right now,but the few she has are found in the living room these days.Just today I saw some really nice sturdy bins for toys and they had wheels and a long handle thingie to pull it with,at Target .I liked the idea, once they grow up they can pull the bin out of their room to the living room etc (any room other than the no-toy zone),play and when they are done pull the bin back to their room or where ever they are supposed to be...I guess kids can enjoy the pulling of the bin from one room to another hence an incentive to clean up after play time...
