In some families childhood engagements are a normal thing… where they promise the hand of their child to another sometimes as soon as the baby is born… and once the child reaches marriageable age, they get them married. Would you ever decide who your child should marry during their infancy? Has anyone here had a childhood engagement?
Re: Childhood engagements/rishtas
haan 10-12 bache hon sub options try karne chahiýn
Re: Childhood engagements/rishtas
I dont think this being a very much fine idea to act upon.. It can work when the exposure (with the opposite gender) is minimum.. so that one could not be having many choices.. but if there is a plenty, it might force the person out of the relationship imposed upon him/her.
Re: Childhood engagements/rishtas
This is a pathetic desi tradition. We should be allowed to axe anyone who does this anymore.
Re: Childhood engagements/rishtas
^ Yup!
Re: Childhood engagements/rishtas
this still happens?!!! so stupid.
Re: Childhood engagements/rishtas
^its ridiculous..noone should be imposed to marry anyone:(
Re: Childhood engagements/rishtas
Before we were married, my husband was engaged to one of his cousins and his brother to her sister. Somehow things didnt go well for my husband and his fiancee and the rishta broke. His brother still got married to his fiancee but the situation is pretty awkward now. The two families, even though now related by marriage of their children, still are not on talking terms. I think its unfair to his bhabi the most because she sees both sides of the family and it must be hard for her to maintain a balance.
Re: Childhood engagements/rishtas
i dont knw any1 who has had any kind of rishta like this, but frankly this is such an idiotic and patehtic tradition, didnt really know it existed nowadays. It should b outlawed
Re: Childhood engagements/rishtas
Its not tradition ... its 'niri jahalat' ... May Allah give all desi parents enough courage to trust their children. Ameeeeeeeen :)
Re: Childhood engagements/rishtas
I will just say that I am very familiar with this practise. I dont intend on doing it myself.
Re: Childhood engagements/rishtas
no way in this world I would like that for my children. I will let them choose their life partners and will support them and advise them if they ask for it.
Re: Childhood engagements/rishtas
I will never put my children into such rubbish. I have gone through a whole mess due to this backward desi tradition and will never let anyone near me do any such stupid thing ever!!!
Re: Childhood engagements/rishtas
I think it's an outdated practise, but i don't have anything against people who still practise it.
You know the actress from Tere Pehlo Main and Tum Kahan Hum Kahan (cant' recall her name), she had a childhood engagement apparently. Then she met some guy and they fell for each other (the guy is an actor too, he actually plays her hubby in Tere Pehlo Main, also don't know his name lol) and it turned out that this guy was the one she had been angaged to lol.
Re: Childhood engagements/rishtas
Things were much different a few generations ago when this practice was put into place in most families. Doesn't mean it was right or wrong for those days but times have changed now and it's more of a rarity to get situations like this.

i heard that was just a made-up story. both of them came on nadia khan show and the guy (sami khan)'s sister called and said she didn't even know that he was in a relationship with this girl (sara choudhary). besides, they broke up now..
