ok so that diaper changing method is way weird, but you're right, that is how they do it here. i just remembered speaking to a friend of mine who actually works at a public daycare and she swore that despite her son getting first priority for admission there instead of being waitlisted, she would NEVER send him there. she said there are so many kids crammed into those daycare classrooms that they can't afford to spend time changing each kid lying down, etc. and they don't wash the kids either after they've pooped which ticks me off. they just wipe them down which i find gross. my baby is only 2 months old but i'm already washing his bum after a poo so imagine when he's older and how messy it must be! when i asked her, she again said its because there are too many kids per class and not enough adults to go around and it takes far too long for them to change the kids otherwise. so yeah.... home day care it is!
thanks for the links mehnaz! i'll definitely check them out although right now i'm hoping to stay home from work until he's at least 18 months old, so lets see how that goes.
khawa, 7 kids and 3 caregivers? holy awesomeness, batman! that wouldn't happen even in a private day care here.
SGC, they don't wash behinds in the home daycares either .... but, the difference is that they are still cleaned properly, regularly, receive more individual attention and nurtured a lot through out the day. My son has rarely had to change his clothes due to leaks or anything of the sort.
I wash my son at home all the time since birth. He's used to having multiple baths/showers throughout the day. :D
you girls are making me want to quit my job and homeschool my child!!!
my baby isnt here yet but I cant picture not washing him.. I have given bath to the friends kids if they go to the bathroom in our house even if it's #1.. yes I have done to couple of them and their motehrs were like really?!!?!? I am so panicky about tehse things :(
Yeah I was wondering why would you expect any daycare (public or private) to wash your kid after a diaper change? I mean non-muslims don't use water to wash themselves so isn't that expecting too much from them? Unless you send them to an Islamic daycare of course.
Re: the washing... I don't know why I thought they'd do that-- I guess I just assumed it seemed to be the most hygienic thing esp. for little bottoms. So long as they use enough wipes, not washing should be ok. I will always bathe him at home anyway.
I had a nanny for my kids. I worked half day from the office and half day from home and that saved on expenses. She wasn't even that expensive, she was worth her weight in gold. My kids still miss her esp my little one. If you find such an option that would be the best. She would take the kids out and do their laundry, make sure they ate (as opposed to daycares where they present the food to the child and if the child doesn't eat they will not encourage him). I did not go though an agency, used sites like care.com etc. Did a drug test, and checked refernces. The site will also check criminal records (back ground check)for you. Oh and I allowed her to bring her little daughter with her. Few people allow that and the nanny was so grateful she was alwways willing to go the extra mile for me.
What about experience of someone in the U.S?? I've lived in Canada for several years before moving to the U.S. I found the healthcare a whole lot different in the U.S then Canada. I was wondering if things were different when it comes to public daycare in the U.S vs Canada.

i have the same question and plus are there enough public day cares in usa? do parents have to pay anything ?
i heard the private ones are really expensive..starts from $1200 a month
^thats right.. I was looking at infant day cares in a very small town in the US and the cost is around $12000/annually for HALF day, five days a week! (from 8:45 to 12:45)
and I will not know much baout the public day care.. still need to do research on it!! I shoudl probably send an email toa friend who works at the day care!!
^MILs deserve their freedom. They've dealt with all of this for a long time. Let them have some fun now. :D
nah...they LOVE doing that. :) you just have to treat MIL like your own mother!
^ MIL is happy to oblige too, whenever I need. But I wouldn't want to tie her into a fixed schedule. they travel a lot and stuff, now that SIL is in college. they should be allowed some freedom.

oh ok...it's NOT a universal solution after all. there are exceptions indeed! maashaa Allah, you are quite considerate towards your inlaws, alHamdolillah :) they will give you tonnes of du'aa iA :)
^The thing is they would never say no. But if there are other options around, I like to make use of them. Or do a parttime one thing and parttime another thing.
Now when inshAllah Ammi stops working, I will happily leave Bunny with her parttime, as she is not as fond of traveling and stuff. Or we would try to coordinate a schedule that allows for some flexibility and shared responsibility.
Bunny is very lucky to have so many members of her fanclub so close by.
