Child of a single mother

One of my friends had a bad marriage where her husband was addicted to drugs, used to beat her, lock her up when going somewhere, and the mother and sisters used to treat her like a maid servant. She got divorced after the birth of a daughter. Her husband was expecting a son and refused to accept a daughter, calling her a burden and saying she was unlucky. The reason for the divorce was because he flatly refused to take his wife home with the daughter.
A few years have passed since then and the father never inquired about the daughter. My friend has now got a proposal from a family that is willing to accept her with her daughter, and the boy wants to give everything that is the duty of a father to the little girl.. Does anybody know what the islamic rules will be for this scenario?

Re: Child of a single mother

Islamic rules in regard to what exactly? :konfused:

Re: Child of a single mother

The girl will be mahram for her new father - the old father's duty has not be taken away - he still must fulfill his rights as a natural parent, if not now then in the hereafter.

Re: Child of a single mother

Islam does not stop a divorced woman with a child from being happy...what kind of Islam would that be?

She can marry anyone she wants...as long as he's Muslim.

psyah bhai answered the rest.

Really? I did not know a step father is mehram. Is it from an authentic tradition?

A person cannot marry a mother and daughter together or even after divorcing the one he is married to. That would make the guy mehram to his step daughter.
