First, what is child abuse to you? For some people, spanking or hitting your child comes in that category while some argue that they grew up getting hit by their parents frequently and turned out fine.
I’ve seen some parents hurt their kids with an object, even their belts. Some parents are ruthless and we’ve often heard of serious injury or death occuring as a result of that.
I recently heard of a desi family who is going through serious charges of child abuse and their 4 kids have been at foster homes for a very long time while the court battles are underway.
April is National Child Abuse Month. In light of that, let’s discuss our thoughts.
abuse comes in all forms, be it physical, emotional/psychological or verbal. very tough to decide which is worst for a vulnerable child.
as far as physical abuse is concerned, i guess there’s a difference between a swat on the butt or a flying chappal now n then to get them in line (first-hand survivor hehe) and a persistent and forceful beating which will eventually break the child’s spirit.
mental/psychological abuse is the sneakiest one, won’t leave marks on their body but will shatter a child’s impressionable and trusting mind into believing the abuse is probably deserving and go through life not even knowing they were hapless victims.
verbal abuse is probably the most common form, targets self-esteem directly, a crucial let-down at a time when they need constant affirmation and confidence boosts.
abuse is hideous in all its forms, it alters their personality and stunts their emotional and mental growth.
an interesting article i came across, makes sense:
