Hard luck For Zimbabwe Captain
Chigumbura suspended for two ODIsZimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura has been suspended for two ODIs for maintaining a slow over-rate during the first one-dayer against Pakistan in Lahore. He will now miss Zimbabwe’s final two ODIs against Pakistan in Lahore.
Zimbabwe were ruled to be three overs short when time allowances were taken into consideration. ICC remote match referee Roshan Mahanama handed Chigumbura two suspension points while each of his players received a 40 percent fine (10 percent for each of the first two overs and 20 per cent for the third over), according to the ICC Code of Conduct.
If the actual over-rate is more than two overs short in an ODI or a T20 international, such an offence is considered a serious over-rate offence under the Code. If Chigumbura is found guilty of a second serious over-rate offence in an ODI over the next 12 months, he will receive a sanction of between two and eight suspension points.
Chigumbura pleaded guilty to the charge and there was no formal hearing.

Re: Chigumbura suspended for two ODIs
Poor guy scored his first ton and got suspended.. But his overrate was too slow. They were short of like 6 overs in due time..
Anywaz, Indian cricket council must be happy..
Re: Chigumbura suspended for two ODIs
This was quite unnecessary and sours the whole ODI series.
Rules are rules; however I never agreed with this stupid rule of captain having to miss subsequent game(s) because of slow overrate. Why should the captain only suffer? The whole team should be penalised imo.
Something like 5 extras given to the opposition x number of overs short is more appropriate punishment i.e. if you are 4 overs short then it is 20 extra runs to the opposition.
Given the significance of the occasion ICC should have relented imo.
Re: Chigumbura suspended for two ODIs
If u start adding runs to batting side that gives latter incentive to slow down overrate.
Re: Chigumbura suspended for two ODIs
And Steve Davis could get in on the act - take his time moving his ash between overs when Australia or England is batting.
Re: Chigumbura suspended for two ODIs
That’s a good point. However it mostly happens during the first half of the game. Leniency should be shown if they are only 1-2 overs short i.e. start penalising the fielding side if they are 3 or more overs short. For slow over rates in the second half there could be a different penalty
