Chickens, Cows and Goats/Sheep

How do you teach your child that it is okay to eat these animals?
Besides “Allah made these animals so that we could have food” what do you say to a youngster that feels sorry for them?

It was all well and good when she didn’t know where “meat” came from.
Now that she knows it is proving more and more difficult to get her to adjust.

Re: Chickens, Cows and Goats/Sheep

My daughter loves to eat all the above but when she found out that they are the same as the cute looking animals she fed at the farm she was quite upset.

So I explained that Allah said we have to eat them so we can be healthy and that is how he made the earth. I told her that if we didn't eat them, they'd just die one day anyway or a bigger meaner animal would eat them up.

It took her some time to figure it out but she seems to have gotten over it now.

Re: Chickens, Cows and Goats/Sheep

How about explaining the whole circle of life. Too scientific?

Re: Chickens, Cows and Goats/Sheep

We do not talk about the fact that someone has to kill that animal for us to eat the meat. Although the older one is aware of that concept but we downplay that topic if it comes up.

Re: Chickens, Cows and Goats/Sheep

My daughter actually thinks that the chicken that she eats is a different chicken that she pets. :omg:

NJ :hehe: Anywayz we have to tell our children eventually that its the circle of life, try to explain to them in easy ways.

Re: Chickens, Cows and Goats/Sheep

Circle of life created other issues when they discussed it in her preschool a few years back.....she was constantly in fear of being eaten by something or someone...... LOL.

I have explained that this is the way Allah meant for it to be. Now she is confused about why Allah would want any of His creations to be eaten.....which led to why Allah wants us to die.

ugh.

Re: Chickens, Cows and Goats/Sheep

Precisely when they get to the "but why? Mom why?" stage....
we should progress to "beta ask your abba" stage

lol
