Re: Chicken with rice and gyros

i still have never tried it =//

Re: Chicken with rice and gyros

I know a lady whose husband owns one on 6th... not sure if its the one on 53rd... im gonna find out and see if she'll share some tips on making it that way!

Re: Chicken with rice and gyros

Sara you must!! Also it doesn't taste as yummy if you take it home and warm it in the microwave. So u gotta eat it while it's hot to fully appreciate it haha

Re: Chicken with rice and gyros

Skirtlez there are actually two stand there on different corners. One of them is not the authentic 53rd and 6th stand but still tastes pretty good I'm sure.

Post the info as soon as u find out please. Would love to make it at home.

isn't that the case with every platter/gyro? :D
hubby loves this one that is in our area (well our borough), he will not try anything else. sigh

Your right, gosh I miss that one! Its really awesome if you drench it with the white sauce & their barbecue sauce rocks. Just 1 or 2 drops of their hot sauce is plenty to start a fire. What I heard is the guy across the street are the same people/same food. Anyone know if thats true? Just not many people know that so they stick it out on line across the hilton instead.

Re: Chicken with rice and gyros

Also there is this halal truck on 34th St n i think near Broadway, he is pretty good as well....his chicken seems to have a little desi touch but its also pretty good.

Re: Chicken with rice and gyros

Oh here is a website I found telling how they are the same across the street

Re: Chicken with rice and gyros

girls I think the 53rd st 6th ave or is it 57thst - well whatever, but seriously I think that is overrated.

I had the gyro platter few times because of friends "digging" that place... but I never liked their chicken. It's always soooooo stinky. I just don't understand the hype.

Just couple of weeks ago, I ended up there again, because one of my friend wouldn't leave without having the platter :( So I had the meat gyro... and I did not like it.

I just think because it's "halal" place people are lining up - cause there is not much in the city near by...:(

Although I MUST say I LOVE their White sauce :)

omg!! i just looked at the pics of chicken and rice and now i really want it and i will be around 34th and Broad. tonight so im definitely eating that.

it isnt only muslims eating there. usually i go around 1-2 am and its filled with whites. but yeh their white sauce rocks!

53rd and 6th- HOLLERRR!!!!!!! lol

please if anyone knows the recipe thatd b great- but i doubt itll come out the exactt same way!!

Re: Chicken with rice and gyros

there's one in J/H which is awesomeeeee.. i liked it even better than the one by hilton.

ye I know I see all kinds gathered there… but I was never a fan… except for the white sauce… :hehe:

Re: Chicken with rice and gyros

sounds delish. will make sure i rembr to try it when im there next iA!

Re: Chicken with rice and gyros

.

Being an English lady, I was much mysterified as to what exactly constitutes a "gyro".

From my research I summise it is the equivalent of what we British folk call a "Lamb Doner with Rice", "lamb" doner being a disgusting concoction or mashed animal rejects squashed together and layered with fat.

The white sauce remains a mystery still, what does it contain / taste like?

Re: Chicken with rice and gyros

I think the white sauce at the halal truck in NY is mayonnaise based, but have no clue about other ingredients. It really is delish. I do wonder what the lamb gyro is mad eof? hmm. But I know the chicken gyro just uses cooked chicken breast meat etc...but just not sure of spices used. I seen some recipes online where they just use oil/salt/pepper & dill, but that doesnt seem quite right.

I could be wrong, but I thought Lamb "Doner" is typically an afghani/Turkish staple, which is just like their version of our seekh kebab.
