Chicken Soup?

I have a basic recipe that I normally use. But was needing a change. What are some chicken soup recipes people have/like?

And if the recipe comes with a chef who is willing to make chicken soup for a pixie suffering from a cold, I will forever be thankful.

Re: Chicken Soup?

I have made chicken soup many times - started with boiling the bones with veggies and spices then strain it and add rice or noodles and sliced carrots and celery. Its always good but...

those boxes you can buy "Lipton Noodle soup" are really almost...better. Esp when not feeling well. You open the packet and stir it into 3 cups of boiling water and 7 minutes later, relief! I always have a box of Lipton somewhere in my pantry in case of colds. Theres also packets of broth by "Herb-OX", its a small green box of chicken powder that you add to hot water...better than tea with honey when you have a cold!

Then theres my "cure-all" soup....wonton! From a good chinese place...I swear a good wonton soup can cure anything.

Hope you feel better soon!!

Re: Chicken Soup?

Nice MO3!!

Pixie hope you feel better. I think a basic chicken noodle soup does great when you're ill. make the stock by boiling a full chicken cut up with some roughly chopped onions, garlic, ginger, basic whole spices like cloves, peppercorns, bay leaf, etc. Salt and black pepper. A bit of vinegar to neutralize the smell. Let it boil until the chicken falls off the bone. Then strain and put back the stock on the stove in a pot. To this add uncooked noodles and let them boil until tender. You may season it with some oregano for the extra umph.

Re: Chicken Soup?

A good dose of garam masala to your pot of chicken on the boil with some salt. Boil, boil, boil, then strain.

This is very simple for a Pixie to do when the Pixie has a cold and is not feeling up to chopping vegetables. (But I do agree that the addition of things like celery, carrots and onions do improve the end dish considerably).

BTW, the aforementioned pixie should be recovered by now, one hopes.

Doesn't wonton have pork in it? I have had a really bad cold that turned into bronchitis for the past couple of weeks and am in dire need of a good soup! :(
