Re: Chicken Shaslick Recipe

:o

I've only ever made it a couple of times, and this is the recipe i used (i found it online some time go and customised it slightly):

2 tbsp natural yoghurt
2 Garlic cloves, crushed
1 tsp fresh ginger, finely grated
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp ground coriander
A pinch (or two) of chilli powder
1 tsp ground cumin

1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp tomato puree
4 skinless and boneless chicken breasts, chopped into 2cm cubes
1 onion, cut into chunks
2 tomatoes, cut into quarters
1 green pepper, deseeded and cut into chunks
2 tbsp oil

1, Soak 8-10 wooden skewers. In a bowl, mix together the yogurt, garlic, ginger, black pepper, coriander, chilli powder, cumin, salt and tomato puree. Add the chicken and mix well, coating all the pieces. Cover and refrigerate for 2-3 hours.

  1. Thread the chicken onto the skewers, alternating the meat with chunks of onion, tomato and green pepper. Brush with oil, then grill for 15 mins until cooked through and golden brown.

  2. To achieve the sizzling effect, heat an iron plate. Then place the chicken skewers onto the plate and splash a few drops of water and oil on it.

Also, i've used some different additions to the chicken, just things that were sitting around in the fridge, like mushrooms, baby sweetcorn, carrots, tofu, halloumi cheese...

Hope that helps :)

thanks maroush

Re: Chicken Shaslick Recipe

^ My mom makes it similar to Maroush. So it's basically boneless chicken in a red gravy made from grated onions, diced tomatoes, vinegar, soy sauce, ketchup, salt, sugar, chilli sauce. And you add diced bell peppers to it.

Re: Chicken Shaslick Recipe

redvelvet - I make it as a gravy as well. But I have seen some folks put the chicken and vegetables on skewers and then they saute and bake it.

The taste is completely different. The ones of the skewers taste a bit BBQey

I've heard of the skewer version but I prefer the gravy version :) I love curry and gravy with meat.
