Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

I made chicken corn soup today, same way we always make it but somehow this time it didn’t get it’s ‘thickness’. I mean it was just regualr ‘patla’ soup! I checked the cornflour and there was nothing wrong with it (date waghera was fine)
Anyone knows what went wrong?

Btw, I made a paste with cold water+corn flour and added that to the chickenstock (that’s how I always do it)

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

U forgot to add one thing, and I have forgotten what its called.

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

Maybe the quantity wasnt enough, or maybe you added too much water to dissolve it.

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

^, yep, agree with sadaf. Just heat it up and add more corn flour mixed dissolved in cold water.

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

Is this a cream based soup. Whenever I've had chicken corn chowder it's creamy and thick? Sounds like this is stock based.

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

Just add up mor corn-flour-mixture girl. No need to be worryin.

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

The problem that I encounter is that it gets thinner with time. When fresh, thickness is ok but it thins out???

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

i luv that soup
!!!!!!

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

forget the corn flour all together. add cornstarch instead...trust me It works. let me know how it goes next time :)

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

yess. corn starch

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

Errr.......i thought corn starch and corn flour were the same thing?:( please dont take it literally when i say corn flour. They look the same to me so I think they are the same, no?

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

not they arent. they are 2 different things. i dont know what the differences are but if you go to the grocery store you will see that some are labelled corn flour and others say corn starch. corn starch always works best...u only need about 1-2 tsps for about 3-4 cups of water...depending on how thick u like it.

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

^ is this the same as we get in Pakistan by the name of "ararot" or "arrowroot"? Cuz once I saw a chinese recipe in a cookbook using arrowroot.

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

^^Nope. Arrowroot is similar to cornflour, but not the same.

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

It's a stock based soup, but you add creamed corn to it. (Creamed corn is mushed up corn, and doesn't have any cream in it).

To get the soup thick, you have to use a roux of cornstarch and water. Also, once the soup is ready to be served, drop a beaten egg in it to get those "ribbons."

Re: Chicken corn soup- what did I do wrong?

yeah same thing happend with me too yesterday ..its soo patla this time just like water ...
