I made chicken corn soup today, same way we always make it but somehow this time it didn’t get it’s ‘thickness’. I mean it was just regualr ‘patla’ soup! I checked the cornflour and there was nothing wrong with it (date waghera was fine)
Anyone knows what went wrong?
Btw, I made a paste with cold water+corn flour and added that to the chickenstock (that’s how I always do it)
Errr.......i thought corn starch and corn flour were the same thing?:( please dont take it literally when i say corn flour. They look the same to me so I think they are the same, no?
not they arent. they are 2 different things. i dont know what the differences are but if you go to the grocery store you will see that some are labelled corn flour and others say corn starch. corn starch always works best...u only need about 1-2 tsps for about 3-4 cups of water...depending on how thick u like it.
It's a stock based soup, but you add creamed corn to it. (Creamed corn is mushed up corn, and doesn't have any cream in it).
To get the soup thick, you have to use a roux of cornstarch and water. Also, once the soup is ready to be served, drop a beaten egg in it to get those "ribbons."
