yumm this was so good. its a muslim dish from kenya…
u need
one chicken (not whole…but pieces..with bones)
2-3 bunches of fresh cilantro with small stems
2 tsp lemon juice.
1 tsp salt.
1 tbs ginger-garlic paste (or crushed ginger and garlic)–>doesnt matter
1 medium tomato.
1 medium onion
1 cup whipped yogurt
half cup water
6-7 table spoons of olive oil (more if u want)
in a blender add lemon juice, chopped tomato, cilantro, salt, ginger, garlic, two tablespoons of water and blend till its all smooth. taste to make sure it tastes good.
heat oil in a skillet, chop and fry onions till golden brown. then add the chicken and top with the cilantro marinade. cook till the sauce thickens and clings to chicken and you start to see the oil appear on top. keep on adding a bit of water if the sauce starts to burn or something.
add yogurt and cook till all traces of it disappear and it leaves a thick sauce edged with oil…also check if chicken is tender. eat with rice or roti (because u dont have a choice-u r desi)
if u dont like how it tastes …that sucks. because i liked it. not like traditional desi curries but a more tangy taste… my brother (the most picky eater) luved it too.
so gimme rave reviews!
sara ---u serious? u will bring chicken corn soup?...
but i wanna have afghani food :( o well ill try to get some cooking done friday night...
lusi- have u ever cooked this before?
It turned out ok. We are not used to 'green' colored food so I added some tomatoes and squeezed a lime as well to give it some flavor. I added dhaniya and red mirchi to the green mixture as well otherwise it would have been quite bland. I should have used only one bunch of cilantro instead of two. It tasted OK overall but yes it was easy to make.
