Chicago area imam scandal. What are your thoughts on this? I am heart broken and devasted. How could he do this?

What's bothering me is the people trying to protect him. When he was released a group of guys came to get him all members of the religious community, and it just looks bad a group of bearded men picking him up after bail.

Girls should be able to speak out about such characters. Sad thing is these guys are probably in existence in Pakistan. But no one punishes them.

Shayk Omar Suleiman has been very vocal about this on social media…kudos to him for standing up for the victims and not brushing this under the rug

Am shocked about this news, since I met the guy at a masjid's fund raiser some years ago. We don't want to sweep it under the rug, but at the same time we don't want to automatically think he is guilty. There are millions of dollars at stake here, that kinda brings out the worse in people. Also he is 75 years old, so it could also be just a power play to get control of that money. But if the allegations are true, he should get a very public trial and severe punishment. I have met some very spiritual imams/ulema, but have come to realize, the taqwa a person has is rarely proportional to the length of their beard.

There is often news in the Pakistani media about child rape by some Madrassah student or in one case even a muezzin was implicated so it's not that people go scott free all the time. Our local Islamic school here in the US had a teacher too who is currently in jail due to similar accusations against a student.

This is exactly the case with media, people forget the real story and just remember what appeals them as juicy item.

khayr, this chicago incident is a shameful one but lets wait till things get more clear. Dont jump to conclusion too early, and yes if the guy is involved he need a harsher punishment.

Okay quick viewed and my opinion, he still accused but not convicted of actual charges. Remind me a broadcasting published a year and half ago where a clerk seems to Muslim but not was a Muslim allowed same sex marriage. :D

There are multiple women who have come forth about what he has done.

Not sure why that matters. For a woman to come out and speak about sexual abuse is traumatic, and in the small community in the Chicago area it might even be seen as shameful. The fact that there are multiple cases going back a few decades makes this even more damning. I am sure once the DNA match is done, it should be easy to prosecute this guy.
