Chestnuts

what do I do with them?

Re: Chestnuts

You roast them and then eat them. They taste divine. Sachi, I love them.

We normally just put them in a toaster oven and then crack them open. :yummy:

I remember eating them as a child in Trafalgar Square … :teary1:

… they are quite heavy and fattening though so I’m trying to lay off them this winter. It’s hard cause they are really tasty.

Re: Chestnuts

They have them at every corner in Turkey - chestnuts roasting on an open fire :yummy:

Re: Chestnuts

Mark a cut on the hard shell with the knife before you pop them in the oven or you may get exploding chesnuts! Roast for 15 mins at 350 and as they cool a bit its easy to remove the shell with you fingers, enjoy. Very yummy indeed.

Re: Chestnuts

I have roasted them..and when I opened one..it was soft and chewy. Is it supposed to be like that?

Re: Chestnuts

Well it certainly isn’t supposed to be hard and crunchy, like an almond or any other nut, so yeah, it sounds right. You can toast it for a bit longer if you want so they become a bit harder … but they are supposed to be melt in your mouth kind of chewy .. they don’t really melt, but that’s how lovely they taste and the only way I can describe them. I think I’m gonna buy some this weekend. :hula:

Re: Chestnuts

hhmmm… chestnuts:yummy:

Re: Chestnuts

Ill tell you what I do every winter

I buy a packet with very good intentions and leave them in the veg rack for weeks and then throw them out...the squirrals dont even touch them

I thought they were supposed to be soft and floury inside? not chewy

Re: Chestnuts

I have never had em.
Can someone describe their taste?

Re: Chestnuts

hmmm...I'm not sure if I like the taste
