Chest Press

Yesterday, i went to the gym and the trainer asked me to do chest presses 14 times with a 7kg weight. This is what the equipment looks like:

Chest Press0

I am unsure of how this will work on my body. She said it will tone the chest muscles but i am scared that it may increase or decrease the look instead of just the toning.

Has any one tried this machine? What advantages & disadvantages does it have?

P.S i am talking about females and usage of it according to them

Re: Chest Press

For a woman that may not be a good thing to do.

It looks like it is meant for pectorsl muscles build up of biceps or shoulder muscles.

Women chest and shoulders should not be muscular.

Re: Chest Press

^ Nonsense.

Its not like you'll suddenly build up huge pecs and biceps off that one exercise. People break their backs in the gym for years and hardly gain 2 pounds of muscle because their diet is all wrong. You wont gain any muscle unless you eat right, just like you wont lose any fat regardless of how much exercise you do if you're eating rubbish.

Go for it.

Re: Chest Press

It makes ur boobs perky :phati:

…and don’t listen to rubbish about women building muscle…women do not have enough testosterone to build the “manly” type of muscles, plus it takes alot of dedication to diet and excercise to get those body-builder type bodies.

As per my knowledge (LF may correct me if i’m wrong), muscle helps burn fat…so there’s no reason for women not to do even a little bit of weightlifting.

Re: Chest Press

I'd agree with LF. Weighted presses help immensely in losing the fat around the muscle.

Re: Chest Press

Sara is right. Most people don’t realize but muscle helps burn/use fat.

Re: Chest Press

It's good for you. Don't worry you wont end up looking Arnold :p.

But what worries me is that yr instructor started you on that much weight?! that's kinda odd.

Re: Chest Press

yup...the more muscle you have the better your body burns the fat. Also more muscle means your body luks better toned n in grip.

Re: Chest Press

Guys hold your rains.
Look at the machine, it is meant to build the muscles, widen the chest/shoulders and reduce the fat where a woman SHOULD have some.

Actually with fat burning, boobs will be smaller. Just look at women who work out heavy or are athletes. You will know what I am saying.

Toned muscles are good with less fat, but beauty of women is in their softness (did not mean fatness).

Last thing a man would want to have a tight muscular woman to feel...:D

Women do build muscles despite they may not have testosterone. Heavy duty machines can still build muscles in women.

Re: Chest Press

Womens should not do chest press :smack:

Re: Chest Press

No one can build any muscle unless they are eating right.

There's absolutely no reason for a woman not to do Chest presses. They wont suddenly turn into the Hulk, no one on the planet can.

Re: Chest Press

LOL

Unless they are married to one.

OK. So your advice would be that they should not eat right when they use this machine so not to build muscles?

How about slowly?

OK. I dont want to drag it.

Like I said, these heavy duty machines are not for women. Even if the women use it, they should use it at very low level… which defeats the purpose but makes her happy she bought an expensive machine.
No more from me.

Carry on please.

Re: Chest Press

Oh for Pete’s sake…WOMEN CAN do chest presses. :smack:

There’s this whole stigma attached to this particular area of exercise…that by performing chest exercises, women will develop a flat chested, muscular look like a body builder.

FALSE!!!

Exercising your chest area is great for women who want to strengthen their shoulders and arms, improve their posture and prevents sagging. If you don’t want to use the machine, you can do the incline/decline chest press/chest fly using dumbbells…or even simple press ups.

Trust me, you have nothing to worry about. I’ve been doing chest press exercises (which are a part of my exercise regime) for a long time and i do not look like the Hulk, promise!!! Furthermore, your trainer is YOUR trainer for a reason…i’m sure they know that you’re not wanting to look like a female anabolic-steroid-abusing body builder.

Re: Chest Press

Maham, thats the lowest weight on the machine. This is how it is 7 kg → 14kg ->21kg and so on. I am on the 7kg one. I asked her today about the same thing that i already am chest size 38 - 34, i dont want to look heavier any more. She said no the machine will only help you tone your muscles and put some shape into them. She said trust me on it, these are just rumours about the machine.

I do have baby fat arms, those that sag a bit. I want to tighten that hanging flesh too so maybe the machine will in fact help in that area.

My one & only concern is that i dont gain in the chest area. I hate it when women’s boobs are coming right out of their body. Plus, i already have perky ones.

Since, i am a novice with this machine, i am unsure of its effects on my body. Whether it will help me lose fat, lose weight from arms, increase or decrease boob inches. Thats all.

Re: Chest Press

well, if u lose alot of weight, your boobs do shrink since breast tissue is mostly fat...but working the muscles underneath the breast tissue just perks them up a bit...

the machine will help u build muscle, to lose fat u need to do cardio. I think others here can verify that...

Re: Chest Press

I do cardio for almost 45 minutes a day and chest & leg presses for 10 minutes each.

Re: Chest Press

I came across this text on Wikipedia:

"Strength training differs from *bodybuilding](Bodybuilding - Wikipedia), *weightlifting](Olympic weightlifting - Wikipedia), *powerlifting](Powerlifting - Wikipedia), and *strongman](Strongman - Wikipedia), which are sports rather than forms of exercise, although training for them is inherently interconnected with strength training, as it is for *shotput](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shotput), discus](Discus throw - Wikipedia), and *Highland games](Highland games - Wikipedia). "

Re: Chest Press

Never said they CANNOT do, did I. I only mentioned what could be the result.

How much weight you use or time yiou spend on this machine by the way?

Re: Chest Press

You're talking nonsense.

By eating right I mean getting 500 more calories than they need to be getting. If ANY human being isn't doing that they WON'T GAIN MUSCLE.

So she cant wake up one day and SUDDENLY find she's got huge pecs and biceps.

Women can use 'these heavy duty machines' all they want, it simply depends on what their targets are.

She could use something like this to lose weight just like she can to gain muscle

Re: Chest Press

The result can be whatever a woman wants it to be. Be it gain muscle or lose fat.

You can't do either UNKNOWINGLY.
