Chernobyl

A very interesting documentary.

Re: Chernobyl

that was a really good one…such a disaster and they did not want to disclose what the real picture was like!!!

and ppl are still meddling with nuclear power!

Re: Chernobyl

Way too long :( What's it about?

Re: Chernobyl

Yes, a short summary list please.

Re: Chernobyl

The Chernobyl disaster was a catastrophic nuclear accident that occurred on 26 April 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine (then officially Ukrainian SSR), which was under the direct jurisdiction of the central authorities of the Soviet Union. An explosion and fire released large quantities of radioactive contamination into the atmosphere, which spread over much of Western USSR and Europe.
The Chernobyl disaster is widely considered to have been the worst nuclear power plant accident in history, and is one of only two classified as a level 7 event on the International Nuclear Event Scale (the other being the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011).[SUP][1]](Chernobyl disaster - Wikipedia)[/SUP] The battle to contain the contamination and avert a greater catastrophe ultimately involved over 500,000 workers and cost an estimated 18 billion rubles. The official Soviet casualty count of 31 deaths has been disputed, and long-term effects such as cancers and deformities are still being accounted for.

Re: Chernobyl

^Exactly what LP said...and the worst part is that all those ppl who helped to avert the second blast (which would have wiped out half of Europe), they were not even given full care afterwards, they were wrong numbers of how much exposure they had actually had, and later on they even cut down on their welfare.

Why was it so difficult for them to admit that it was a catastrophe...why hide the facts?

Chernobyl will never be habitable again...and its effects are still there...that nuclear reactor is still there..and they will have to keep maintaining the cement they built around it to keep it contained....and ofcoz the cement underneath it too.

Re: Chernobyl

What I find fascinating is that Prypiat is now a complete ghost town. So eerie and scary.

Re: Chernobyl

If you can find it, the Horizon docu this article is written about is worth watching:
BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Chernobyl’s ‘nuclear nightmares’

Re: Chernobyl

^I just read the article...it is still downplaying what those ppl went through...and some of them still might be...easy for them to talk about it now like this...they were not exposed to it...

Re: Chernobyl

The documentary is not about what people went through but trying to understanding the effects of radiation.

Re: Chernobyl

^ interesting. Even most contaminated lakes had diverse ecosystems. That's encouraging.

Re: Chernobyl

God I love Horizon.

Re: Chernobyl

Chernobyl :(

There was a virus back in late 90's with the same name. My windows 95 machine got infected by it somewhere around 97-98. It was a nightmere. Luckily, I found the symentic removal tool and was able to run it.

Re: Chernobyl

The Chernobyl incident always remembers by the world historians as people know the tragedy that how a nuclear power plant in Ukraine as power plant malfunctions and whole city face the deadliest consequences due to the negligence of the power plant administration.
