**This year’s Nobel prize for chemistry has been awarded to Professors Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Thomas Steitz and Ada Yonath.**The prize is awarded for the study of the structure and function of the ribosome, which the cell’s protein factory.
Professor Ramakrishnan is based at the Medical Research Council’s Molecular Biology Laboratories in Cambridge, UK.
This research has revealed how the DNA code is translated into life.
The prize is to be shared equally between the three scientists.
No Indian can get recognized unless we choose to become citizens of the West. We get a fantastic basic education but past under grad level it is miserable - to do one year of true research that I can do in the West, it will take me 3 or 4 India. It used to be worse and getting better but Indian government and politicians forget a very important factor - human beings including scientists cannot expect to live for 300 years! If something requires 20 years of work at senior scientist level, India makes me work for 80 years at it due to stupid corruption and bureaucracy!
every damn thing I know I learnt in India yet to achieve results in my one this lifetime using that knowledge I have to migrate and work in the West

you cannot run away from the character of a land....why people in singapore can be compelled to keep the country neat and clean but in india one cannot even imagin of it.....you have to accept the basic nature of citizens....politicians have not appeared from the sky...they are our own dirty business.
while remainng desperate...we have done a lot...come to banglore and visit IT city...you will find a lot of education hungry westeners running after our local cheaps.

I don't disagree. But we cannot become complacent in the name accepting that kind of character.
Indians in general have accepted corruption as a way of life. I won't be surprised if some govt workers start a strike tomorrow saying their bribe rates have to be indexed to inflation. How can we accept that as a national characteristic?
State govts are giving free tv's and commodities to people. Why can't they build some public toilets and force people to use that instead of streets? How can you accept that as a national characteristic?
Junior Secretarial levels and clerical levels of every civil service is bought and sold openly; every level of police jobs are sold on a open-secret price list; 200+ members of the national legislature have serious criminal cases on them, including murder. How can you accept these as national characteristic?
Poverty is no longer a result of inadequate resources. Sacrifice, hardwork and sheer mental brilliance of Indian scholars, engineers and businessmen have ensured adequate resources. Corruption and unhygenic habits are standing in the way.
We need statesmen directing politicians. Murthy (Bangalore airport for example) and Nilkeni (Uni ID project) and Tata are examples of such statesmen; but we need more of them.
It is all about R E S P E C T for oneself. If you respect yourself, you wouldn't lie, seek bribe or defecate in public. I don't want to think that is our national characteristic.
