chemical peels

Any disadvantages or bad experiences…

Re: chemical peels

No one?

I guess it's not that popular amongst asians then.

Re: chemical peels

I had 2 peels done recently with a month's interval between each.

The peels last for 10-15 minutes. The first was a lunch time peel, that felt nice and refreshing. The second peel was a deep peel, gosh it was uncomfortable. My face felt like it was on fire, I think I even shed an involuntary tear or two. For the next three days my face was peeling, so if you're getting this done, try to get it done on a Friday. On the fourth day, my skin looked fantastic.

Years ago a classmate who had a bad experience warned me against it, but I decided to get one now after I saw a vast improvement in two of my friends. Pick the place carefully, choose a reputable dermatologist.

Re: chemical peels

Do non-chemical peel experiences count just for the sake of information?? I have gotten done 3 green peels done (herbal ones, not chemical). And I was very pleased with the results. They took for about 45mins-an hour. My face did feel like it was on fire and then I couldnt touch it for a day and a half. But it started peeling the third day I think and continued on till the fifth. In the end, I saw a huge improvment in my skin texture. I had a lot of deep ice pick acne scarring and the peels helped with that quite a bit. I saw alot of improvement after the first peel actually.

Re: chemical peels

I have tried lancome's and it wasnt all that great.

Re: chemical peels

I always wanted to get one
but just never got around it.

Re: chemical peels

Ive been thinking about having one for ages now but just cannot gather the nerves. I went for a consultation once and they talked aboout some phytofruit peel which isn;t too harsh and u don't have to stay out of the sun after it like u do with the stronger chemical peels. Still thinking about it.

Re: chemical peels

Anyone who has to deal with scarring, shouldn't wait too long. You'll just have to do the deep peels for those and those can be painful!!

Re: chemical peels

arent chemical peels for older people? I went to a dermatologist once and i asked about the peels...she said im too young for it and my skin doesnt need it now.

Re: chemical peels

I've been getting mine religiously for 2 years now. Once a month with the facial.

They are awesome and worth the expense.

The Green peels are for mature skin, however the acid peels are for everyone.

With any peel however you have to use their products daily which include cleanser, day/night cream and moisturizer with a good sunblock.

Re: chemical peels

Legally Brwon
what kind of peels are u getting with your facials?
Are they glycolic? And how long do they keep it on?

Re: chemical peels

Sajal Appa....bohat sawal karti hain aap???? Aapke hubby ke tau sarre baal gir gaye hongay aab tak;)

Re: chemical peels

Sajal, yeah they are glycolic peels.
Basically she does it with the facial so she'll cleanse and prep my skin for the peel, apply it with the brush and then massage it in for a good fifteen minutes, if my skin requires the peel will then be steamed, if not she will steam afterwards during the facial.

The skin tingles a bit but if you bleach your skin then i suggest dont bleach before the peel.
It'll tingle more, learnt that the hard way :D

The peels arent that expensive, its the daily facial products that put a hole through my wallet.

You ask too many questions.

Re: chemical peels

Thanks everyone for ur input :)
**
Namkeen**, i'm having them done at an asian (paki) place, wot about u? Is it better to go to a pakistani who knows more about ur skin? Well my treatment is for six weeks, once a week...but so far i have had two done...the first time they left the stuff on for 2 mins and the second time for 3 mins...they said they wud gradually increase this to see how my skin reacts to the formula.

Ira, sure any info on peels is helpful...i found out about other types of peels after i had started this chemical peel :( but let's see, it mite work for me...yea i have some acne scars too, that i wana get rid of b4 my wedding...so since i have time, i thought now wud be as good a time as any...where do u get these green peels done from, asian or gora place?

Femme Fatale, yea my beautician told me to stay out of the sun also and to wear lots of sun block, just to be extra careful u know.

Angel Eyes, i believe anyone can have them done...i think older women have a different type of peel to help with wrinkles...but ppl told me i shud try the chemical peel to help get rid of some marks n stuff.

LegallyBrown, u get them done WITH ur facial?! Isn't it too harsh for ur skin? Well hopefully after this 6 weeks treatment i won't keep getting peels, cos they r annoying and not to mention expensive (at least when u do them every week!) But i do get a facial every month, just not now cos i thought it wud be bad to have a facial in the same month as having peels.

So wot r glycolic peels?

Re: chemical peels

Kashmiri, No it isnt harsh at all, The facial benefits from the peel before it cause it strips the skin of all the gunk and dead cells accumulated within the month.

I suggest you get your peels done from a place that are professionl, the procedure you are talking bout sounds very dodgy.
Did they put you on products before the peel? You cant start having peels without prepping the skin for the acid, otherwise your skin will deny the peel. Plus you need to use those products continiously otherwise you might as well throw your money in the gutter cause the peels wont do you any good.

A 2 and a 3 min peel sounds dodgy as, the time duration of the peel doesnt matter, if its going to do damage it'll do it upon application.

The 6 week treatment will get rid of the acne or whatever but you'll have to keep up with monthly peels to keep the acne at bay.

Glycolic are acid peels.

Re: chemical peels

LegallyBrown, what type of products did they put you on to prepare for the peel? I was given a (tingly) face wash, and some very tingly astringent. There was also a cream to use every other day.

Kashmiri, the place I go to happens to be desi, but I picked it because I saw results with my friends who were going there. I had been to some gora places before but I wasn't happy with the treatment, so I discontinued it. You should at least ask to see before and after pics of other patients if you weren't referred to this place by someone. As Legally said, the 2-3 minute thing sounds strange. I think what they generally do is start out with a mild peel, then increase the strength of the peel depending on how your skin reacts.

Re: chemical peels

legally brown
I have gotten them myself with facials but
they don’t seem to do much for me. :bummer:

Re: chemical peels

LegallyBrown, i duno i'm confused now...i thought it was only for a few minutes cos it's strong stuff...but ur saying it needs to be kept on longer for it to work...i guess i'm naive when it comes to these things, so i can't tell if someone is dodgey or not. Prepping? Well i was given a soap to wash with first, then she used some sort of toner (acid maybe)...then she put on the paste (i guess the peel) with a brush...i just go to this place cos it's convienient and it's where i get my threading done...i have really sensitive skin and they know this, maybe that's y they were scared and weren't leaving it on too long...and they r gonna increase the time week by week. And i'm mostly trying this for some acne scars, not as an acne treatment...they recommended i try a chemical peel for the marks, before going for something like microdermabrasion. Thanks for ur suggestion :)

Namkeen, i believe that's wot they're doing...starting off mild, and then gradually increasing the strngth of the peels. No, no one referred me to this salon...i've been going there for ages for other stuff so i trust them...i don't know anyone who has had peels done. Thanks :)

I don't wanna throw my money down the drain, but i've already had 2 out of the 6 peels recommended...this salon has a good reputation in this city...i wud feel more comfy getting this done from a paki place, and this is the only one that is well-known here (they have like 5 locations)...the other salons here r rubbish...so i thought i'd give it a go...do u guys think i shud stop then, or carry on and see how it goes?

Re: chemical peels

Okay, in order for any sort of peel to work, green/acid etc. you have to change your daily cleansing/moisturizing/nightcream product to whatever the peel is going to done with.

I get MD Formulation peels so every facial prodcut i use is MDs.
The cleanser, night cream, day cream and the spf moisturizer.

Its because they contain some percentage of the acid in 'em so when you get the actual peel the skin is already ready for the acid.
Also regualr use of the products will make sure the effect of the peel stays.

If you dont use the products and just get the peel the skin is not going to adapt to 'em as it should.

Basically the result can be seen after the first peel.
If you dont see the result its not working.
The skin will be glowing from inside, the pores will be minute and any scars you have will be slowly diminised.

Freckles and moles dont go away with acid peel.
You gotta go with the green to get rid of wrinkles.
