Hello everyone,
I have been admitted to BE Chemical Engineering in UET Lahore. I don’t know is it a good field or not and should i go for it or not. If anyone has information about study courses, jobs availability and pay scale etc, please tell me, advise me and help me in making my decision.
a couple of my friends completed their Chem Eng from Canada, and then went back looking for jobs. Surprisingly they got offers from companies like ICI, P&G & GSK within a month. Mind you that the starting salary was a bit low (in range of 20k/mnt), but they got tons of other benefits
I think you have chosen a good field. There are lots of oppertunities in the field of chemical engg. in Pakistan as well as abroad. Its not like CS that has very high and very low times. The profession is kind of steady.
In Pakistan multinational companies like, Shell, ICI, NESTLE, Engro, Unilever do pay very good salaries. There are also good oppertunities in oil ref. as well as local companies like FFC, Pakages and other chemical manufacturers. Oil exploring companies pay a lot of money to chemical engineers in Pakistan but the only thing is htat you have to work far from big cities. Also there are very good chances to get a job in atomic energy in Islamabad.
In US chemical engineers are the highly payed engineers. Beside the conventional oil and gas, paper, chemical and other processing industires there is a VERY HIGH demand of chemical engineers in the areas of semiconductors(Microchip processing) in the companies like INTEL, Motorola, IBM, AMD, Sony and Hitachi and the growing field of BIOTECH. Biotech companies hire a alot of chemical engineers and people say that this is the next area of industrial revolution.
