Hi guys!
I have some acne scars and big pores on my cheeks. I’m thinking about getting either a chemical peel or micrdermabrasion done but I am kind of scare because I don’t want to mess up my face. So I wanna know if any of guys got any of this done how was it and is it safe to get it done.
Re: Chemcial peel or microdermabrasion
go for salicylic peel it is great for acne and big pores and have no side effect ,if you wear sunblock and do not expose your skin to sun for long after treatment during healing process.
Re: Chemcial peel or microdermabrasion
I've had both done and for me microdermabrasion (with glycolic peel) didn't make any difference at all whilst the TCA peel made a *huge*difference.. If the thought of ur skin turning brown and crusty then peeling off from a strong TCA peel (as well as having to stay indoors for a week cos u look like a monster) is too offputting u could go for a milder TCA peel (u could start as low as 12%) or even a lactic peel.. Please be careful if u go down the peel route tho, they can leave u looking absolutely flawless but if not done properly there's a very real possiblity of ending up with permanent scarring from burns or hyperpigmentation from the stronger solutions..
Btw Retin-A is good for dealing with old Acne scars by increasing ur rate of skin cell turnover.. Might be worth trying that if u haven't already :)
Re: Chemcial peel or microdermabrasion
^so you think glycolic acid doesn't work as well?
Re: Chemcial peel or microdermabrasion
^For me it did nothing..
Also, it gave this awful itching feeling (tho I could have forced myself to deal with it if it actually worked).. the burning sensation from the TCA was actually easier to tolerate for me, tho I know others can find the stronger ones too painful..
Re: Chemcial peel or microdermabrasion
I don't know how people go thru surgeries n all, even a chemical peel scares me :(. I saw on tv how after the procedure it leaves a red map like thingy on yr face for few days n it was too much for me to digest. Earlier i thought i miteeeeee try a peel to get rid of my minor acne scars but no way.
I think for minor scars we shud be just vigilant with using the rite cream or even following up a remedy n it wl make alot of difference.
Re: Chemcial peel or microdermabrasion
I love peels! I swear by them because they WORK!
Glycolic peels are good for exfoliation. I recommend salicylic and TCA peels...they're the best for acne and scarring. Microderm is okay but you have to do much much more of it to get the same result as one peel.
They're safe (under the supervision of a nurse, doc or licensed esthetician), a little tingly at times but then again I get tingly when I use a strong cleanser so it didnt matter to me. Yes, there was peeling and some redness. I was okay with that though...it didnt hurt.
Go for it, you will love your face when you're done!
Re: Chemcial peel or microdermabrasion
Salicylic for active acne
Glycolic and TCA for acne scars, microderm inbetween sessions (gap of atleast 11-15 days) to get rid of the dead skin and build-up.
Re: Chemcial peel or microdermabrasion
Btw OP there's a thread here that someone started just the other day about the** Obagi Blue Peel (TCA peel with a blue tint), that's a really good one one, could get rid of any old acne scars in **one treatment.. If u do a search on here the info should come up..
Re: Chemcial peel or microdermabrasion
I recently had a microderm, & it seemed to make no difference what so ever, so wouldn't recommend that. Havn't tried any others.
