MOSCOW (Reuters) - An explosion has rocked a packed sports stadium in Russia’s restive Chechnya region during “Victory Day” celebrations on Sunday, killing and injuring people, RIA Novosti news agency reports.
Interfax news agency said the commander of Russian troops in Chechnya, General Valery Baranov, was among 10 people injured when the blast struck celebrations of the Soviet Union’s 1945 victory over Nazi Germany.
Russian Television showed people in panic and reported the stands had been packed on Sunday.
Brief spurts of automatic gunfire could be heard.
Victory Day is a major celebration in Russia.
The Grozny event was mirrored by festivities throughout the country, including a marchpast on Moscow’s Red Square.
It was not clear what caused the blast, but Chechen rebels have in the past targeted official events and public gatherings for attacks.
A Reuters reporter was among the injured.
Russia has been fighting separatists in the mainly Muslim northern Caucasus region of Chechnya since it first tried to break away in the 1990s. Moscow has reimposed its rule in the capital Grozny but guerrilla resistance continues.
Chechen rebels have also launched attacks in the Russian heartland, including Moscow.

the news suggests that the bomb may have been placed in concrete for upto 3 months in advance when some renovations were going on...if that is true, it shows how organized and deliberate the chechen mujahids are, mashallah....
one mans obsession and ego can lead to so much death and destruction . russians are never going to be able to subdue the brave chechen people and just like afghanistan they will have to run for cover after leaving a trial of death and destruction.
i want to know why today nobody questions the russians what the hell were they doing in afghanistan? and who is accountable for the millions who died in that foolish invasion?

In 1996, Akhmad Kadyrov was one of the leading ulema (religious scholars) of Chechnya, and a great leader of mujahideen in his own right, a hero amongst Muslims and a hero to Chechnya. The martyr (inshallah) General Dudayev, who had led Chechnya's bid for independence, even appointed Kadyrov to a prestigious position as a mufti.
Just 8 years later, Kadyrov was leading the brutal oppression of his own people, of his Muslim brothers, with foreign backing, foreign soldiers...
So much violence, blood thrust exists in these minds, what if general people feel fear all around these days; shamelessly they thank the heavens for blood. I do not find a single post here condemning violence.
There are many other Muslim communities living in Russia, they do not support Chechens, they are just near to the realities and find no reason to support them, what are your suggestions, kill them?

It’s not Kadyrov’s lack of support for the mujahideen that meant his detah was well-deserved. It was his actions as a despot, a usurper of power from the legitimate and freely elected president Aslan Makhadov (may God protect him from his enemies), and his tyranny of Chechnya that made Kadyrov’s life forfeit.
