Cheap electricity at the cost of environment....

Would you go for it?

Re: Cheap electricity at the cost of environment....

Neither is thar coal going to be cheap under the current govt, nor is our environment ever on the top of the 'take care' list of our status quo politicians.

When you have chemical factories running in the middle of populated areas, do you really think environment has ever been a concern in Pakistan?

Re: Cheap electricity at the cost of environment....

^ Regardless of who is in charge right now and what has been happening in Pakistan in the past, what would be your personal choice?

Re: Cheap electricity at the cost of environment....

Dr. Samar has already mentioned how proper capture of the flue gases from thar coal can result in creation of diesel as a by-product, thus reducing the waste matter, and reducing impact on the environment. So yes, I would be all for it. Even if this wasnt possible, Id still vote to use our own resources in order to reduce reliance on oil.

Re: Cheap electricity at the cost of environment....

It depends on various factors for me personally.

  1. Does it boost local development in Thar?
  2. Does it provide local employment both skilled and unskilled?
  3. Will it lead to basic facilities in these areas to improve and benefit the average man?
  4. Will it lead to a general up lift in the life of people in the area?

Economic over environment.
