Charkha got an important place in folklore and Sufi poetry.
From Shah Hussain’s ‘Ghoom CharakhRa CharakhRa, teri kattan wali jeewe’ to ‘Sun charkhe di mithi mithi cook, mahiya menu yaad aawnda’ it formed part of many folk songs.
Charkha used to produce Khais and weaving khais was sometimes compared as weaving beautiful dreams in poetry.
**With the advent of textile industry and branded clothes like Sapna Sitara Lawn, the process is some what became materialist. New brands are promoted and launched in a way that purchasers buy these brands for showing status symbol.
How do you see this transformation of a simple and poetic process fulfilling human’s basic need into totally commercial and materialistic form?**
