Does charity on behalf of the deceased benefit the deceased ?
Uptil now I thought it did , but a friend just told me it doesn’t.
Which is it ?

only out of the deceased person’s wealth.
It does. Every good deed that you do on behalf of a deceased helps the person. Please carry on with your practice and don’t listen to the person telling you against it.

It doesn’t only sadqa’e jaariya earns reward for the deceased i.e. anything they did during their liftetime, anything built out of their estate and the good deeds of their children/students etc.
