Charity-Alms- Extortion

All religions tell you to give alms to the poor. Society demands that welfare be a standard. Rich should help the needy.
Doesnt helping the needy actually ruin them more because now they are used to getting help and take the welfare for granted.

In Yellowstone National Park (or any Nat’l park) you are not allowed to feed the animals, because they become dependent on humans.
So why help humans? if rich humans or a person works hard, why should the hard worker or the rich person be subjected to extortion be it govt backed or enforced by religion or imposed due to societal pressures.

Why should man be dependent on man (in the context of helping other humans)?

Re: Charity-Alms- Extortion

If i help out a man who's family is dying with hunger because he was not lucky enough to be born to a wealthy family and who cannot find a job since he didnt attend school i dont see how he will become dependent........its one thing to look at charity u recieve as a full-time salary but there are really people out there that have not inherited wealth, nor have the means to achieve it for whatever reason. since it is very difficult to find out what an individuals circumstances or intentions are, I believe it is better to help them out than not ....if u have extra income. It is also beneficial for the society as a whole, because it prevents crime arising from jealousy and deprivation.

Re: Charity-Alms- Extortion

The lower poverty rates in developed socialist economies (Europe, Canada) compared to the USA answers your question.

Mandated redistribution of wealth from the rich to the poor leads to less human suffering in total. People do not and should not have the right to accumulate wealth whilst others go poor. That does not create a healthy society.

Re: Charity-Alms- Extortion

animals dont compete for material stuff like us. they usually find food lying around.

Re: Charity-Alms- Extortion

One reason for Zakat was so that money stays in circulation and just doesn't end up saved in someone's account.

Re: Charity-Alms- Extortion

Why should people not have the right to earn money and accumulate wealth. If I am able and willing to work twice as hard as my counter part and am rewarded for my hard work, why should I be told not to work hard to accumulate wealth.
Bill Gates is rich becasue of his ideas, his creativity, his hard work. Why should he be told to let go of his wealth?
