Chard

has anyone ever cooked with it?

I bought 2 bunches today because it was £1 for 2 large bunches and looked pretty. I thought I could cook it with chicken like palak?

this is what it looks like

Re: Chard

You do it then let us know how it turns out then I will ask my wife to try it.

Re: Chard

Ok teekh hai. Ill try and let you know :)

It looks so pretty and healthy so I am excited!

Re: Chard

I thought it's used mostly for English dishes...do let us know how it turns out.

Re: Chard

I tried it twice , didnt like the taste much .. so never got it again … Once I just stir fried the leaved and stalks along with chicken and other vegies … horrid experience … It was too bland ..

The next time I cooked it up like palak , as you said and the salan came out sweet ! for a minute I checked if I had put salt and not sugar .. but I guess it was the vegetable’s taste :naraz:

But yeah good luck , let us know how it came out ..

Re: Chard

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepppppppppppp ok ill let u know!

Re: Chard

okay guys so its cooking atm!Ill tell you what I did.I didnt actually use the leaves, I am going to eat them raw in a salad.I used to stalks as a sabzi and I am cooking it with lamb, I just tasted the gravy and it tastes nice a very 'saag' savoury earthy flavour, like beetroot but not at all sweet. CB i have NO idea why yours turned out sweet? Maybe you were using beet leaves rather than chard?

Re: Chard

Turned out pretty tasty guys! If you like that reallllly vegetably flavour - very savoury - like saag, or shaljam or similar try it!

so delicious with rice! nom nom nom

Re: Chard

Great thanks for sharing.

Re: Chard

Mirch - make sure you get Rainbow chard! I think CB may have got something similar but with a sweet flavour.

If you are going to try it that is :)

Re: Chard

I often make red chard , leaves and all. Sometimes stalks can be tough so just use leaves and tender parts of the stalks. It is a delicious vegetable and different from palak. More like sarsoon ka saag when cooked khara khara. UsuallyI Eat it with chapatti or as a side dish with dal chawal.
Try making it with out any meat, it's very nice. Why put meat in everything???

Re: Chard

Bebo - I am sure it tastes anazing without meat but because I am on a very low carb diet I have to eat alot of protien to stay full.

So I only had one tablespoon of rice lol

Re: Chard

Oo no no..it was a general comment... You know how we Pakistani usually put meat in everything, even in bhndi..
I am not a vegetarian but I very rarely eat meat. I can never do the low carb diet, I love bread yummy.

Re: Chard

I like the fact you cook. However, this is the first I have heard of chard, lol. Turned out well I see... hmmm

Re: Chard

Its the first time I have cooked with chard! I love going to the market and checking out all the interesting fruits and veg and its such a bargain too! eeep

Yeah turned out pretty welll.

I think chard is not that well known for whatever reason, maybe you have heard of swiss chard it more commonly goes by that name.
