He is right about food tasting better on charcoal. You are right about the control and convenience.
We use gas grill. If we need to grill something, its never more than 25 - 30 mins from start to finish (food on the table). You cant get that quick turnaround on a charcoal grill.
Charcoal is definitely better. It gives a nice smokey flavor that gas grills can’t provide.
We have a gas grill & what I do is add smoked wood chips to my grill on the side to add smokiness to my meat. Mind you it still doesn’t compare to stuff grilled on charcoal but works for us because cleanup is easy.
My brother is big on bbq & he only uses a charcoal grill. I have noticed the best thing with charcoal is to dispose the ashes right away after every grilling session. If you get a tad bit lazy it seems like such a chore later on.
Here we have Matchlight Charcoal, lights up fairly easy and ready in 10 minutes. Also you can wad up a ball pf newspaper and use that to light up the coal quicker. Charcoal grill definitely gives better flavor.
Infrared grill with smoker box for wood chips wins hands down in speed and quality of cooking, and getting the woodsy aroma without the carcinogens of charcoal.
