Characters that established artists

In PTV’s era, old people used to recognise actors/ actresses with the name of their famous characters. I still remember my Dadi used to call Arifa Siddiqui as Makhi ( her brother played by Waseem Abbas in Amajd Islam Amjad’s Samandar teased her as makhhi’. Behroz Sabzwari was always recognised as Qabbacha.

Share your memories of such characters that gave recognistion to actors?

Re: Characters that established artists

for me alpha brava Charlie: abdulallah is still kashif, maj qasim is gul sher.

Re: Characters that established artists

Arshad Mehmood as Bhai Jaan Chohdri in Aangan TeRha. His daughter was our class fellow and we used to refer her as ‘Bhai Jaan Chohdri ki beti’ :hehe:

Re: Characters that established artists

Sona Chandi - probably most famous characters from PTV Lahore.

Re: Characters that established artists

I agree with the Alpha Bravo charlie characters. There were plenty others in PTV's era but with the kind of choices available today kudos to Bushra Ansari and Hina Dilpazeer for making Saima Chaudhary and Momo household names. I guess you can count Khirad and Ashar amongst the new lot too but honestly it was more a case of marketing and social network hype than real talent.

Re: Characters that established artists

How can one forget Jaan Rambo so much so that Afzal Khan's actually added Rambo to his name :)

Re: Characters that established artists

Agree, its very difficult now to establish characters in the times of multiple channels and artists doing multiple projects simultaneously

Re: Characters that established artists

certain actors were able to portray many characters memorable. If we look at Saleem Nasir's career, he portrayed characters like Maamoo (Ankahi), Akbar (Aangan teRha), Jalaluldin Khwarsam Shah (Aakhri Chattan) with so perfection. All the characters were totally different

Re: Characters that established artists

I was about to write this but actually forgot his real name :cb:

Re: Characters that established artists

i'm not old enough to have seen the classic ptv dramas first - so it doesn't really work as i've seen more current dramas of the actors/actresses but not the ones that gave them a break into showbiz from the 70/80/90's etc if that makes sense ... anyway i tend to associate
sara chaudhry as laiba from tere pehlo mein
faisal qureshi as talha from tum kahan hum kahan
sami khan as asher from tere pehlo mein
sabreen hisbani as nirmalta from meri adhoori mohabat
mikaal hassan as zaidi from yaad to ayengey

what my mum said :
Atiqa odho as sitara from sitara aur mehru nisa and sania saeed as mehru
Marina khan as sanya from tanhaiyan / zoya from doop kinare
Sajid hassan as Dr irfan from doop kinare / as rameez from sitara ...
Noman Ijaz as the character he played in Dasht ( cant remember the name )
Humayun saeed as shazeb from mehndi
saba hameed as sumbal from family front

Re: Characters that established artists

I remember Seemi Raheel was always referred as Basanti in our home due to her role in Asghar Nadeem Syed's Khwahish. That serial also gave popularity to Javed Kodu.

Re: Characters that established artists

Re: Characters that established artists

But Babra Sharif was established actress when she did this role. Everyone called her Babra

Re: Characters that established artists

oh really I always remembered her from that drama.

Re: Characters that established artists

I think she had done more than 100 movies before doing this serial. Probably for TV viewers (who remained disconnected from Pakistani cinema and movies due to Zia's strict policies), the serial was first opportunity to see the actress :)
