Dear Dhobi bhai, Once again, you came up with an excellent thread. I really like the way you search for interesting Cricketing news and then share with us. Thanks for doing that and keep it up.. Now, let's come to Moin's article. I think comparing Greg Chappell to Bob Woolmer is comparing bananas to oranges. Woolmer hasn't played any international cricket if any, compared that to Chappell who has played good Cricket in the ground as well. Moin Khan is picturing Bob Woolmer bad as he doesn't communicate in the same language as our Pak players do. I think Moin Khan forgot that Pak also had foreign coach named "Richard Pybus", the biggest flop coach ever and where was Moin Khan @ that time..? Yea, you guessed it right, he was playing for Pak team under Pybus. Wasn't he? Correct me if I am wrong.

Woolmer has done brilliantly well for Pakistan and Grep Chappell is doing that as well for India. ONe thing that no body has touched so far is that Woolmer has been with Pak team for almost 2 years unlike Chappell who's been with India for a mere 4 months. Comparitively, Woolmer has turned the Pak team around from 2004 to now and I am sure WC 07 is under his eyes as well. Indian team bounced back very well under Chappell but just before October 05, they were in shambles every where. So in my view, both coaches are doing a good job with their respective teams.

If Moin Khan thinks that Woolmer hasn't really designated himself as a good coach, he needs to take another look. First of all, saying that Salman Butt got out in similar fashion in the last 3 games he played doesn't justify that. He(MOin Khan), never mentioned that it was under Woolmer that we found Salman Butt and he's been a great asset to Pak team. He forgot that Shahid Afridi has been doing brilliantly under Woolmer as compared to past coaches and top of that, Woolmer has got Pakistan to become a fighting unit. NO doubt, fielding was really bad during the one day series but it's the habit of our old players to take their guns out at once rather than looking optimistically for the future.

I really liked the way Woolmer put the defeat of 4-1 of India to Pak as the best thing to come before the World Cup 07. We rather have it now than have it next March. It must have given a look to Woolmer for the shortcomings of Pak team and how to get rid of them just before the WC 07.

I think the option of having a fielding coach and bowling coach is always good as compared to "too many cooks spoil the broth." I would support it only if they can be utilized in combination with the junior teams as well. Thus when the players come to play at the international level, they would be already loaded with ammunition and they can deliver just like Aus team members. I think fiellding coach and bowling coach really should be employed with both the junior team and the senior team but they shouldn't be visiting with Pak team when they go overseas. Instead they should stay with the junior teams in the net so they can get them ready for international arena. But I am assured that having the bowling and fielding coach can help, it can't hurt. I am very optimistic rather than pessimistic like our former players who have bombarded @ the Pak team and the coach after a loss of ODI series to India. That's the way it has been in Pakistan and we got to change that and see more in a positive manner rather than just bashing at our team who has provided us with brilliant Cricketing victories. Make Inzy captain till 2007 World Cup**

*The knives seem to be out for Inzamam. In Pakistan cricket history, losing a series to India has almost invariably resulted in the skipper paying the ultimate price of being sacked.

Mercifully, this is not going to be the case for Inzy though there have been calls from some quarters for someone else to be entrusted with the One-Day captaincy.

I don’t subscribe to that view. Inzy has been the single most significant unifying factor in moulding the present team into a cohesive unit. The 4-1 series defeat was greatly offset by the earlier Test series victory.

Apart from being a successful captain, Inzy has arguably proved himself over the years to be perhaps one of the best batsmen the country has produced. The cold, hard facts and figures prove me right. At the cost of sounding repetitive, I prefer Inzy over greats like Tendulkar and Lara.

My logic is simple. Unlike his two great contemporaries, Inzy has always delivered when the chips are down. He has united the team and commands respect from teammates. He has also taught them to respect each other.

It is surprising that Inzy has been made captain only for 2006. Perhaps it is the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) policy to name captains from year to year. But Pakistan cricket’s interests would have been best served if Inzy was appointed skipper till the 2007 World Cup.

His misfortune is that he has been saddled with a coach who doesn’t seem to know what he is doing. Woolmer, in my humble opinion, is arguably overrated and overpaid coach in Pakistan cricket history.

Unlike Miandad or Chappell, Woolmer is unable to actually do something and show the players, which is the normal part of any coach’s duties. That is the main reason for Pakistan’s inconsistent performance at the highest level and specially in the vitally important fielding department which certainly played a huge part in ODI reverse.

He has also assembled around him a coterie of highly-paid South Africans since he does not seem to be accountable to anyone. I have nothing against South Africans but there are far better professional coaches available in England, Australia, New Zealand, West Indies and even in our own backyard than the present PCB coaching staff.

Woolmer is also trying to get Jonty Rhodes as a fielding coach in addition to another coach for bowling. One wonders what Woolmer will do himself. Physiotherapist Lifson is reported to be away on leave when the injury-hit team needs him most and an important tour to Sri Lanka is just round the corner.

Another factor of Pakistan’s loss against India in ODIs was coach’s incomprehensible practice of chopping and changing and shuffling the batting order which prevented the team from settling down.

Yet, Woolmer has not been able to give the team a reliable pair of openers in more than a year. It is known to all followers of the game that by adopting the same method Woolmer turned South Africa, then the second best team in the world, into also ran.

Which leads one to ask: Why was he hired by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)? This is something that must be probed. To Woolmer’s good fortune, he has had a chairman selection committee which is only too happy to look the other way just to retain his job.

Unlike most other sports, the captain of a cricket team wields a lot of power. Here is a sincere piece of advice to Inzy. Listen to all the advice that you get from the coach or anybody else. But do what you think is in the best interest of the team, you are the most experienced player at present.

A recent bright spot on the Pakistan cricket firmament was the way in which the Under-19 team retained the World Cup in Colombo. My heartiest congratulations to our future stars, especially Anwar Ali Khan whose early strikes enabled the team to successfully defend the very modest total of 109 runs in the final against India.

The senior team must consider the kind of pitches it will encounter in Sri Lanka in view of the low scoring final. As the old saying goes, horses for courses. One hopes the team for Sri Lanka is chosen keeping that in mind. And here is wishing Inzy and his boys all the luck in Serendipity.

He was sacked and the rationale was; we lost to India and Miandad didn't have a strong clause in the contract like Woolmer that if you fire me I will get 50% more of what I am making.

shame, i thought miandad had quit himself,well the team was better under him coz they lost chasing 350 in the first odi n consistency was seen in their performance,n the series ended 3-2 not a pathetic 4-1

Well guys, I guess it's time for us to stop thinking as the defeat from India in the ODIs as the end of the world and let's move on with out bashing Bob Woolmer anymore.

Can any of the former experts/players support the team in this time rather than criticizing from front..?? Can we just look at the mistakes and depend on our team and our Bob jee to get back the happiness to us? Yea, you bet we can def.
