First of all a very Happy Independence Day to all the Guppies!
Pakistani media has changed alot over the time period.some changes are good and some are bad.so tell us what changes did you all witness in TV.are the changes good, are today’s actors more harworking or you miss the old ones?is the media going on the right lines ?
there have been good and bad changes but overall I'd say it's good. but I probably perceive it to be good maybe because my own tastes and priorities have changed.
the bad:
1) Pak drama has gone to hell. but I don't have the patience to sit through dramas anyway. so, not a big loss for me.
the good:
1) the current affairs programming is good to see. there is a lot of room for improvement. the anchors need to be better educated in the subjects they discuss and they need to learn their role a bit. they're not preachers and they're not judge/jury/executioner all in one. they're there to conduct an informational program - not spread one-sided propaganda. there's a lot of garbage that needs to be filtered. guys like Mubashar Luqman, Javed Chauhdry, Kamran Shahid, etc would not have their own shows on TV in a meritocratic world.
having said that the freedom of expression is great to see. long may it continue. too much freedom is better than too little freedom. I'm willing to tolerate Mubashar Luqman, Kamran Shahid, etc to see shows by Naseem Zehra, Talat Hussain, etc.
2) Shoaib Mansoor moved into films. Sabiha Sumar made a fantastic film. Salmaan Peerzada uploaded a trailer from his brilliant film Zargul to youtube and is trying to get it released in theaters but for some retarded reason is being stopped by the censor board. hopefully he will be able to get it released. we need to see and support films like Zargul.
the hope is that more good directors will take a stab at making intelligent films in Pakistan on Pakistani subjects/themes.
3) Pakistani music continues to be a force based almost purely on the raw talent of amateurs who seem to emerge out of nowhere and take the music scene by storm. long may it continue.
