Changes in Pak squad after WC

We know Inzi is going to retire for sure. I think Mohammad Yosuf might play for another year or so. Same case with Shoaib Akhtur.
So i guess the next person in line up for making a permanent position in team would be Faisal Iqbal.
Last but not least i am sure openers slots (both) will be open even after WC.

Re: Changes in Pak squad after WC

No doubt there will be changes after the World cup. However the level of changes will obviously depend upon the performance of the team in the tournament.

If they perform below expectations than we may see changes like those seen after the last world cup i.e. new players being introduced, new selectors etc.

Re: Changes in Pak squad after WC

Why do you think Yousuf will be gone?
I think he is going to play for a long time....he should
Obviously younis will be captain.

Re: Changes in Pak squad after WC

Yousuf will play for next 4 years, as he seems to be very fit and at his best right now. Younis ofcourse has a long career ahead of him. Not sure about Akhtar though, he might play for another two years if fully fit. Faisal Iqbal will play again, may be permenantly if we couldn't find anyone better. Asim Kamal will be back. A new keeper/batsman will be added to shadow Akmal. Malik will be VC. Afridi will be reserved for ODIs only if Danesh and a parttime spinner shone in tests. Rana and Gul will compete for the spot but both have plenty of cricket in em. Razzaq is there for next 3 years in ODIs only. Asif has a long run infront of him.

Beside opener's problem (I hope it will be sorted out by WC), we will need atleast one test fast bowler to be available for backup of Akhtar and Asif. We also need a keeper/batsman and an geniune allrounder (Shahid Nazir or Arafat).

Re: Changes in Pak squad after WC

yar dont take me wrong... i want yosuf to be around forver.. but he is already 33 mashalaah and i really hope that he plays till next WC but fitness is a big issue...!

Re: Changes in Pak squad after WC

^ I don't get this WC theory man. Why always we want our players to retire or play until A WORLD CUP. World cup is not everything in a cricketer's life. What Yousuf is doing for the team, if he continue doing that for the team on a regular basis, Pakistan will be a very dashing side in test cricket (we are already good in ODIs). If he retired winning test series for Pakistan and being top scrorer in this cause, that would be the biggest achievement.

Re: Changes in Pak squad after WC

^ because WC is supposed to be the grandest stage of all... it is always best to leave on a high note e.g imran khan ... its not cool to be kicked out like Ijaz Ahmed ( who is 6th highest scorer in ODIs from Pak)

Re: Changes in Pak squad after WC

I predict gundee siyasat in Pakistani cricket after Inzi era and players to watch for that gundee siyasat

  • Shoaib Akhter (pretty obvious)
  • Abdul Razzaq
  • Shahid Afridi

Re: Changes in Pak squad after WC

Khan sahab left cricket on high notes becaue he was khan saab. No other player has earned that caliber in Pakistan cricket yet, hence no decent departures.

But we need to take WC out of our minds. We build our team for WC, what a joke, our make and break is for WC. I think we should get our system and players techinque correct first then look at the trophy. If we won WC and then start displaying poor peformances, what will be the importance or worth of winning WC off a fluke.

Re: Changes in Pak squad after WC

nahie yar... i think Afridi and Razler will be around for a long time inshallah ! Atleast in the ODI side!

Re: Changes in Pak squad after WC

Mr.Afridi might call it a day,his actualy age is 30 not 26 and he seems to be getting tired of cricket now.inzamam will be gone atleast from the one day matches.yousuf could go on for another 4 or 5 years.akhtar might carry on till the next world cup provided that he does'nt get any more injuries otherwise his career might be cut short.

Re: Changes in Pak squad after WC

To me Akhtar look more fragile than Inzi. His erratic spells may not help for too long. As soon as Pakistan find someone with a speed of even Sami but more consistent then Akhtar may not be that vital for team.

Razi is still young, for age and fitness Akhtar and Inzi may not last for next world cup after WC 2007 otherwise every one will be around. Future seems bright for Pakistan cricket... they need to improve fieldings. After watching Tri Series (AUS_IND_WI), it seems like PAK team is not even a professional team. Look at Raina catch, and Andrew Symond saves.

Re: Changes in Pak squad after WC

I doubt if you really watched it. Did you see how India lost the crunch game against Australia. What kind of professionalism was displayed when every tom dick and harry wanted to face brett lee and mcgrath except for the only set recongised batsmen. You can call it anything but not professionalism and it cost them the tournament.

Did you see how Windies manage to crumble every time from winning positions? They needed around 4 runs in 30 overs with all 10 wkts left to win the first match, after getting a challenging total of 280 runs. They lost that game in the stupidest manner possible, only because they wanted to chase 280 runs in 30 overs for unknown reasons.

All teams have their deficiencies including Pakistan. Every day is not Sunday. Just because we lost 2 games in England doesn't mean that they are not good enough. Pakistan still have a very strong ODI side which can beat the crap out of any team including Australia.

Re: Changes in Pak squad after WC

No dispute, every team have their deficiencies, and if you reread what I said, you will agree that I was talking about Pakistan fielding and without any doubt it may only be better than Zimbabway.

For a talented team like Pakistan, both batting and bowling wise, they need better fielding. If fielders could avoid sloppy fieldings and could snatch some sharp catches and run outs, I think they could help their highly talented bowlers to restrict opposition to low scores and help their batsmen chase comparatively low scores.

Fielding require motivation and dedication, and this come with hard work.
