Change the trend

As far as I can remember, the festival of Eid had always brought the sentiments of joy and happiness in me, if I have analyzed it right then the whole saga of happiness and joy was not as per the teaching of Islam but it was due to the fact that I’ll get new clothes, gifts and lots of eidee… if i am right then it is not only me, it is majority who think of eid in same way, i have red somewhere that it is some kind of psychological association… and now because of this trend, everyone in the eid days look forward to new clothes, gifts and sweets… many in Pakistan commit suicide when fail to provide the same… and it tear heart when i see people killing themselves for this reason… what is solution?

i don’t see any immediate solution to it, but what we can do is try to change the trend, lets not our little one associate the EID like we do, let them teach that the festival of eid doesn’t only means EID KEY NAMAZ , EIDEE and NEW CLOTHES, lets take them to the places where “EID” has never struck from ages, in orphanages where children have no body to wait for… lets teach our children that the festival of eid means to give to poor… to celebrate it with the needy… by this, our coming generations wouldn’t committing suicide for this reason..

To me, it is not important how many ahadees and ayas one has memorized, nor does a person who pray five times a day… all what matters to me that if my neighbor is doing fine, if my brothers and sisters are living good, if my relatives are in need of something which i may have in access… as to me the purpose of memorizing ahadees, hifz, praying all night is to develop the love/fear of Allah, Who ordered us, Who have made it mandatory ( if i am right) to take care of those who are poor…

Re: Change the trend

At an Eid salat, the imam who was leading it did say that we should try to make Eid a special occasion, especially for the children and family by giving them gifts, etc.

This is the first time I've heard of someone committing suicide for something like that.

These are all nice suggestions. If we generally have the attitude of looking at those who have less than what we have, then we will automatically be more grateful and appreciate what we have more.

This also isn't the right attitude IMO. Praying five times, knowing Quran/ahadees are all important aspects of our deen, in addition to helping the needy.

Re: Change the trend

Namaz , Roza , Haj , Zakaat are mandatory and important. Memorizing surahs is required to offer your nammaz. There is no way around all this.
Then on top of that you should be doing good to others as much as you can.

Re: Change the trend

I am surprised you heard it first time, it is norm in Pakistan, children ask for new cloths/gifts, parent unable to provide every year and then they kill themselves... this is norm, check the news papers, everyday there is a news or two about it...

There is more to it, if we tend to spend these days with the poor, share our joys with them, the society would become more tolerant... which have its own benefits

If one recite quran 10 times a day, never misses his salat but his neighbor is dying of hunger and poverty then i doubt that the reciting quran and praying would save the person on The Day... Quran and Islam is religion of practice and not theory.... if one do not practice what he read/study then there is no point in reading...not that i am against it, all i am saying practice what you read....

Re: Change the trend

Namaz is good, but what is the benefit of the namaz if one have no fear/love of Allah
Roza is good, but what is the benefit if one goes against the spirit of Roza
Zakaat is good, but what is the point if it is only Riya'kari
Haj is good, but what about the thousands dying with hunger and we spending on Haj expenses

All in all, as Allah SWT says in Quran that He do not need our Salat, Roza, Zakat etc, these are their to make us mutaqi, these are their to have us feel about others misery and being grateful to Allah...

A religion like Islam, have not ordered all these worships ( pillars of Islam) for just to have them in place... it is their for a reason... we need to do these ibadaat and follow the logic/reason as well..otherwise ( if i am not wrong) in Quran it is said that, such ibadaat is nothing more than a sand on the rock, which get brushed of by a mild wind...

Re: Change the trend

Well, I've always lived in the west, so maybe that's why I've never heard of it before.

Everything has it's place. I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of the person who never reads Quran, never makes salat and just feeds his neighbors any more than the person who doesn't care about his neighbors and only stays devoted in worship.
