Change policies regarding posting anti religious comments

Why were my posts deleted when they weren’t off topic? It wasn’t just one, it was almost every single one of them. Are you threatened because I raised some great points that provoked some people to think. Sure it wasn’t exactly something muslims would like to think about but I wasn’t offensive and indeed was very respectful. Doesn’t it show the height of intolerance among our people? I didn’t insult anyone or accuse anyone yet Mr Lethal Kamikaze deleted all my posts from the thread declaring them off topic. I just have a simple request, please change your policies to flat out say that you don’t tolerate anything said against Islam no matter how logical it may seem. That will at least clear things up for the nonbelievers. Please take a poll and ask GS members if they would tolerate intelligent, thought provoking discussion even it goes against religion. If most people reply yes, please make necessary changes in your policies. If not, then stop deleting relevant posts! It will save us a lot of typing and energy.
Thank you!

Please PM the relevant Channel Manager.....You can't attack Mods directly in GS Feedback forum

Thank you

Re: Change policies regarding posting anti religious comments

I don't think there is any such policy. Most of us find your 'logic' pretty harmless and don't find it provoking or threatening at all.

Re: Change policies regarding posting anti religious comments

you should contact to administor who moved your post. I dont think that it is good idea to ask it in feedback forum. :)

Re: Change policies regarding posting anti religious comments

it would have been nice had you phrased your question, without assuming our perspectives, even though a cursory glance at religion forum would indicate that GS policy is that pretty much anything is fair game as long as it is discussed in a civil manner, which the thread was.

There are 2 distinct issues, and they are being mixed up

1) are your posts against our policies- not at all
2) are all the posts off topic as far as the particular thread is concerned or in the right form- yes, it had become a franken-thread with multiple things going on

The thread was started in Life1 and was not the right place for much of it because a big chunk of the discussion beyond the first page or so became very specifically religion focused, beyond just the initial discussion. Which I then moved to religion forum, which i created a challenge for religion forum mod because now they have a thread with posts about religion, general banter about people's experience with MILs etc, and no context on what happened.

Ideally, the established policies are that when a thread is to be moved from one forum to another, it is placed in review and the mods for other forums informed that it should be in their forum, and then they can move it, when it is so mixed up it is always a challenge to remove what would be irrelevant for that forum.

I put the mods of religion in a tough situation by moving it directly and essentially breaking the procedures that have been set, because the discussion was interesting and to take it to review folder and some lag time in moving it to religion may have meant that the moment would have been lost and an interesting discussion fizzled. However, in doing so, I created a challenge for the religion forum mods to now deal with all the off topic posts, which they took out, not because there is any issue with the posts, but because some simply do not belong in religion forum (I can give you a sample if you would like of general 'did your MIL say that' type of stuff) and some others like your discussion which in itself does not have an issue but may need to be a separate thread on its own. In cases like such, sometimes mods move all the stuff and get feedback from others on the team, especially if it has been moved between forums on what they should do, or how they should handle it. Which is what they are currently doing.

The discussion while interesting, and not against GS policies in anyway, needs to be a separate thread on its own merits, and the mods challenge is how to take those posts out and create a new thread and edit posts that may have partial general banter which was going on, and the responses to the discussion so it does not seem disjointed.

Hopefully, I have addressed your concerns and you understand that aside from the lag it takes sometimes due to a globally dispersed part time volunteer team which often needs to collaborate, the intent was to give the discussion its own place so it can continue unencumbered by irrelevant quips of a parallel discussion in the same thread.

Re: Change policies regarding posting anti religious comments

I think the approach against 'off-topic' posts sometimes goes over the top, like in this thread here where either the religion mod could have just let those posts slide, or the thread shouldn't have been moved there in the first place. Every thread derails into a different direction at some point, doesn't mean all of it has to be labeled off-topic and edited. Let the conversation flow, as long as there's no spam or cafe style smiley posts.

Re: Change policies regarding posting anti religious comments

I appreciate your point of view. It is a judgement call and there are no hard and fast rules about it. In my own opinion there was way too much going on in that thread but the overwhelming direction of the posts warranted it to not be in life but in religion which I did, even though I personally was uncomfortable with all these different thing going on in it. I can not fault the mod for trying to make some sense of it and break 9 pages or so of posts into what I would consider 3 separate threads or two threads and a bunch of general banter. The key decision point is whether the thread essentially has served its purpose and the off topic stuff really does not matter and will soon just phase out, or whether the banter is interfering with an ongoing discussion, or in this case an ongoing secondary discussion.

There are no perfect processes or rules set, and we have to rely on judgment calls of people who have to deal with this day in day out. because for every rule there would be an exception, and then for every exception there will be a rule, and then you end up with a rule book like the IRS code, which would take a certification and exam to understand. So we constantly have to balance between a simple standard rule set and judgement calls on other things. It was never, is not, and will never be perfect, and I don't expect that from the team here which does its best to try and keep things running smoothly.

Re: Change policies regarding posting anti religious comments

Thankyou X2.

Brother Theorist! X2 already explained to you the reason why your posts were moved. If still you are in need to know by myside then you are welcome to discuss it with me via pm. Moreover, i would like to bring in your kind attention that your post wasn't offensive, provoked, hateful nor disrespectful to me and I believe not even for any others members who posted in that thread. In fact I liked your calm attitude and the professional way of raising the points. Hence, there is nothing personal against you or any other member and I hope to see your more contribution in GS.
