This is how I make
fry oil add zeera,3 to 4 long cloves,Bari alachi, sabit black pepper, curry leaves, cinnamon stick n fry for 2 mins, thn add chopped onions fry till golden, thn add ginger garlic paste,red chili powder,salt n lil water if required,so tht masla doesn't burn.
Thn add some yougart 2 to 3 tbsp, thn add chic peas mix it well.thn add rice n water,bring it to bowl n thn put on low flame when water dries give it dum n thn enjoy :)

^^ yaar that is not pulao. It sounds like a great rice dish but not pulao. :)
chili powder or yogurt doesnt goes into pulao.

Yaar, technically pulao has no laal mirchain, yogurt, tamatar, etc. You don't make masala for pulao but yakhni.

The way i make channay wale chawal..
take 2 cups of rice and soak it in water.
take a medium sized onion slice it, add oil and bhoon it until the onion is goldenish brown then add 1/4cup of water and add in all my spices including the channa’s (spices i use salt, garam masala, 2tbs ofpilao shan masala and even a dash of red chilli powder)
add 3.75cups of water and wait until it boils, add the chawal (without the water) and lower the heat a little..
when the water is almost absorbed i turn the heat to low and use foil paper to give ‘dum’ for 20 mins..
and that’s about it ![]()

Lusi is right.The typical pulao does not have tomatoes and yogurt.If you are to make masalay daar chana rice,which can just be eaten with raita/salad etc,then make a masala with yogurt and tomatoes.Even add green chillies at the time of dum.It tastes awesome.
To make pulao,fry a chopped onion.When brown add some garlic and salt alongwith whole garam masala and the chick peas.Let it simmer for a few mins and add in rice & water and when water reduces,put on dum.That is how I make it.

same here minus the chilli powder.
I also add fresh garlic paste just before adding water to fried onions…and sometimes thin slices of lemon for aroma.

i think i just add yougart in rice but not tomatoes rest all the recipes r almost same

i add tomatoes, no yoghurt or garlic. channa and peas pilau i keep simple, tastes best that way. i cook it in the same way as jhanjaria
I make it without yogurt or tomatoes and use only whole spices plus a small amount of ground ginger and garlic.

I usually make extra yakhni whenever I make chicken pulao. I freeze it and then when I make chana pulao, I use that yakhni instead of water. The rest of the recipe is same as jhanjaria without shan masala.
You can try adding raisins 'kishmish' to the channa pulao. Boil raisins and drain the water. Add it to the pulao at the time of dumm.
