wil be interesting to see the final 11. Before the warm ups I was pretty sure the one of the two (Misbah and Malik) will be dropped. However with the two getting some runs and form, now I doubt it.
Have to see if it is going to be a bold decision from Younis Khan of dropping yousuf or is it going to be a more easier route of dropping Nazir and putting Malik in his spot along with Kamran Akmal to accomodate Yousuf in the middle order.
Final 11
Malik
Akmal
Younis
Yousuf
Misbah
O. Akmal
Afridi
Rana
Aamer
Gul
Ajmal
Pakistan captain Younis Khan has been ruled out of the team’s opening match of the Champions Trophy, against West Indies in Johannesburg on Wednesday, after suffering a hairline fracture on the little finger of his right hand. He picked up the injury while fielding in Pakistan’s first warm-up match against Sri Lanka on Friday in Benoni, when he and wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal went for a catch in the slips.
Shahid Afridi will lead the side in his place, while Younis will start batting from tomorrow in the hopes of being fit for Pakistan’s next game, against India in Centurion on Saturday. http://www.cricinfo.com/iccct2009/content/current/story/426018.html
Hope Younis recovers in time for the game against India on Sep 26
Younus's injury has thrown a lifeline to struggling Imran Nazir. If he fails tomorrow he knows he won't play against India on Saturday esp. if Younus Khan (as expected) comes back into the side
As for who should be dropped for Asif, I think we do need a left arm seamer for variety's sake. So I w'd never drop Aamer (plus he has shown that he's no mug with the bat either) and it is a toss up between Gul and Rana for me
The Indians play spin better than most teams anyway, so another option will be to drop Ajmal (for that particular game) and play four seamers (Asif, Gul, Aamer & Rana) with Afridi and Malik complementing spin department
I agree with you, but instead of dropping Ajmal, Rana uncle should rest, the problem with Rana is he is often too expensive, which brings the team under pressure, on the other hand, Ajmal ( so far) has proved to be economical and a wicket taking bowler, moreover, he have obtained certain reputation in the world of spin bowling, his dosras can be lot more effective in limited over cricket, so indians will feel a sigh of relief if we drop Ajmal for Rana.
